Tyson vs Paul

Vs now. He really has trained well. But his mouth is still wild. Maybe it's a good thing he "beat" Tyson with short, 2 minute rounds in an 8 round match.

He's talking more smack now, like " I woulda killed him but..." Which is ********. He's lucky he had the footwork to stay at range. He can't handle the roap a dope

Completely disagree.

Mike and Paul threw plenty of punches at each other. That's why we have CompuBox.
Here it is...

"Paul landed 78 of 278 total punches and connected on 31 of 179 jabs, per CompuBox. Tyson was far less effective, landing 18 of his 97 total punches to go along with five of 62 jabs..."

Boxing has always been dirty. But an unscrupulous boxing promoter working his first gig, a ex con named Don King, monetized it into what it is today.

A grub most foul.

IMO, a solid beard can also be used

1) to conceal a smug face
That’s what punches are for.
2) to build self esteem and communicate manhood and authority
Beards demonstrate one follows the crowd and slovenliness. Humans manipulate their environment to their advantage, that is one of the primate’s characteristics, and that begins with facial hair 😐
“No razor has ever come upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaven, then my strength will leave me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man."
-- Samson, Judges 16:15-17 Then she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when you won’t confide in me? This is the third time you have made a fool of me and haven’t told me the secret of your great strength.” With such | New International Version (NIV) | Download The Bible App Now
Crikey! The Bible and science together in one post! 🤢🤮

That tome filled with inconsistencies and inhumanities also says, ‘You shall not make gashes in your flesh for the dead, or incise any marks on yourselves.’ Leviticus 19:28 and I’m sure bushy ginger beards and tattoos never go together! 😏 Anyway Samson was referring to his head!
Some great scientists also had great beards, Charles Darwin, Lord Kelvin, James Clerk Maxwell...
Only in old age and because they wanted to devote more time thinking deep thoughts rather than shaving. Anyway, I’m not suggesting big bushy ginger beards somehow ‘dull the intellect’, I’m suggesting they’re uncouth and display unoriginality. 😑

Yeah, Irish boxers are great at the dirty business, and it's a sad fact that the judges will often give the decision to the less bloody fighter, unlike the movies.
The Taylor/Serrano fight was a much better bout than Tyson/Paul, but women’s sports usually are these days.
I've had my eye opened up like that before, you cant even suture it, you just use glue.
Serrano’s cut looked awful and the thought of it being punched and head butted…😳
I thought Serrano was robbed but wasn't surprised the Taylor the champ kept her title.
Why are you not surprised?
Barrios vs Ramos was one of the best fights I've ever seen.
I must watch it.

Anybody saying the fight was fixed is ignorant. Once again, we are are witnessing the modern "I've never boxed, but let me tell you..." Era.
It was boring though. I got to bed at 6am GMT, with the same feeling I remember from my 20s, after enduring a night of clubbing, expensive drinks, tinnitus and then going home alone 😒

You can absolutely suture that. Glue is sometimes used because it's quick and easy. But you'll get better healing and less scaring with sutures. I'd probably do 1-2 subcutaneous to get it grossly approximated and then 3-4 to close.

What shocked me the most was that it took Serrano until the last couple of rounds to factor that she was going to get a headbutt. After the first one I would have covered the front with my forearms and vertical, elbows down and when she went in for the headbutt she could headbutt my elbow. If she kept doing it I would have given my elbow a short pop while covering just to send a message. "You get what you give."

I wasn't surprised that Taylor kept her title as well. It's always been that way. If I want the title I can't just beat the champ. I have to BEAT the champ and it wasn't going to happen with that big cut on her eye. The ref should have called those headbutts a lot sooner.

did Google out "Jow Ga", that seems like a pretty legit boxing art.
It's a long fist system. You may have seen one of the Jow Ga students train for Sanda. It does have some of the same techniques that boxing has. If you take boxing techniques and make them longer than you would come close to the main long fist techniques in Jow Ga.

It was all a big marketing and money grab event.
It's all a big marketing grab even when it's not a fixed fight. They don't fight for free. If you want to see if a fight is fixed then you just have to watch how Tyson responds to being hit and how he looks while in the corner. His body looked stressed, everything from breathing, movement, and that concerned look in his eyes that made it seem like he was trying to protect an injury.

You know, it’s like she and her team had no idea this might happen or indeed thoughts or training at all in this kind of cheat 😐 <English sarcasm>

I’m sure it’s much harder than you suggest.

For those who are interested.

My personal experience with sparring and facial hair is that the gloves slips off my beard. I don't have a thick beard, but I would assume there is some cushion for those with thick beards.

I wasn't surprised because it was a title fight and Serrano (much like Paul) scored better in theory but not by the judging. In Tyson/Paul's case no title was on the line, it was exhibition, so naturally he played it safe, at range, and just won on points.

With Taylor/Serrano, the head butts were subtle and completely in line with clinch fighting, the refs know it happens, so they don't intervene unless it's flagrant...But knowing Taylor's history she's just good at not making it appear that way. The best dirty boxers are sneaky like that. It's never random.

It happens all the time in boxing, people think it's just about punches thrown vs landed, but there are qualitative factors on top.

Rounds typically go to the more aggressive, least damaged, best defense fighter, who also hits more. And in the title fight Taylor just came out looking a lot less beaten.

Serrano won my heart of course. But boxing isn't a game of emotives, like Jow Ga just said you need to earn those titles with more than just points. That eyebrow cut definitely informed Serrano 's next fight for sure.

Yes, beard hair is used extensively in the aerospace and food packaging industry to cushion items.

Now this was better than the Tyson/Paul fight.

So funny, that you posted that particular photo. I doesn’t take much effort to find pic of DT with literally everybody who is anybody. Before 2015 everybody wanted his money. After 2015 many of those same people just wanted him to go away. Irony, ya gotta love it!
Hope this doesn’t shock you, but Boxing has always been boxing.

An exhibition fight that is fairly disclosed to the public is not a money grab. Hyping a fight as if both parties are going to try to KO each other however they don't even try or have an agreement not to is an unethical money grab.

If you want to see if a fight is fixed then you just have to watch how Tyson responds to being hit and how he looks while in the corner. His body looked stressed, everything from breathing, movement, and that concerned look in his eyes that made it seem like he was trying to protect an injury.
Many watched the fight to see if Tyson would KO Paul. Luckily, it was shown via Netflix not PPV. Mike did not try to KO Paul nor care to throw many punches while he was down on the score cards. Tyson vs Jones Jr. was a fairly disclosed fight. Paul vs Tyson seemed to be fixed.

Sure. He bulked up. So what? He's still a mediocre boxer
I'm with you on this one. He has boxing skills, but he's not officially ranked by an of the boxing associations. If he wants to be seen as a boxer, then that's the path that he will have to take.

This entire discussion about Jake Paul's boxing skills reminds me of Kimbo Slice who was killer backyard fighter and people said the same thing about his fighting skills. But it wasn't until he got into the MMA ring that we understood just how lacking his skills were. Even Kimbo Slice was humbled by that. I think this is the same with Jake Paul.

He said he set out on a mission to be a boxer. Technically he hasn't taken the required step to even be considered a boxer. Right now, he's just someone who can box. When he gets officially ranked or when he tries to climb that ladder then. He can consider himself a boxer.

This is still a money grab. As the promoters of the fight. Ask Netflix. Ask the owner of the statdium. They don't do stuff for free either and they definitely not going to do anything for chump change.

This even not only tested Netflix technical capabilities to stream large events, it made use of the social media fan base to drive boxing and the next show will be to do the same and drive WWE

The promoters used an exhibition fight to get people to watch boxing. I sat and watch all of the matches for 4 hours just to see the exhibition fight and not title matches. Had they it been a Young Jackie Chan and Young Jet li as the exhibition fight I would have have watch another 4 hours just to see that.

I'm a boxing fan so I wasn't disappointed in the exhibition fight? Why? Because it's an exhibition fight. I enjoyed the 2 title fights greatly. That satisfied the boxer fan in me. Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson was a curiosity thing for me.
Jackie Chan vs Jet Li match doesn't satisfy my interest in martial arts skill. It would only satisfy my curiosity.

But back to what you saw. Netflix has cracked the code on how to get fans back. 1/2 Boxing +1/2 Entertainment. Make people curious and then show them what they are curious about.

Luckily, it was shown via Netflix not PPV.
There was no luck in it. PPV can't do what Netflix does.

"The Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight was not shown on pay-per-view (PPV) because it was streamed live on Netflix. This decision allowed the fight to reach a broader audience, as Netflix subscribers could watch the event without needing to purchase it separately."

"What are the future plans for Netflix Live stream?
Netflix has been expanding its live streaming capabilities and has some exciting plans for the future. Here are a few highlights:

Sports Events: Netflix has signed a multiyear deal with TKO Holdings Group to live-stream WWE Raw wrestling events starting in January 2025. They also have a deal with the NFL to stream several Christmas Day games over the next three years.

Comedy Specials: Netflix has been hosting live comedy specials, including performances by Chris Rock and Joe Rogan.

Award Shows: The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards will be live-streamed on Netflix in February 2025.

Reality Shows and Other Events: Netflix has also experimented with live reality show reunions and unique events like the Netflix Cup, which featured F1 racers competing in a golfing event.?

It doesn’t shock me. I’ve been following boxing since the late fifties.
