The simple fact is that our deficit numbers do nothing to show what it actually is. The withholdings for Social Security and Medicare are spent. (Perhaps the government can send you a cruise missile when you retire )
In the next 10 years, 77 million people will be above the age 65.
It is estimated that if entitlements for this group were actually worked into the federal budget, they would add another 1.5 trillion dollars to our debt. As a country, we are in BIG trouble. Our children and our children's children will pay for our politicians irresponsability. I can't even imagine what the history books will say about us.
The sad fact is that neither party is saying much about this because I think the solutions are political suicide. They each hope the other will be on watch when this crazy bubble bursts.
