There are many threads about rank, time in grade, etc. It will probably never happen, but its nice to think sometimes, about the 'perfect world' for just a few. :)

So...in your opinion, what do you feel would be the ideal time frame, system, method, or whatever other word you want to use, for deciding how rank would be given and how time in grade would be handled?

Looking forward to your thoughts! :)

Two levels.

Black Belt - display basic competancy of movement, principles, etc.

Instructor - rated as knowledgable enough on the material, history, priciples, and teaching methodology to independently instruct the material.

After gaining enough competency to be considered a black belt: Knowledge and understanding of the basics and application in self defense plus the equired techniques and forms and whatnot. Then if they practice everyday, practice when sick, practice when on vacation, practice for reality, read about thier art, take every opportunity to learn and teach martial arts, continuously grows in thier art, remebers that they are always a student and will always need a teacher of some sort, respects white belts and is inspired by thier drive and desire; and, does this for over 5- 25 years and never considers stopping and inspires a few others and learns from outside thier art...well then i could see them being ranked "somewhere, up there"
