It's really amazing how much stuff they were able to fit in that tin! I have, however, also been able to find various uses for the CD's themselves as well:

Coasters (and I didn't have to wait long to get a complete set - just go to the mailbox for about a week - even less if you subscribe to any of the tech magazines),

Two or three together seem to be the perfect size to put under that wobbly table leg (break all you want, they'll make more)

I, for one, truly believe their self-defense value is highly underrated (shuriken, anyone?).
