The thing is, they aren't. What you call 'socialism' bears no resemblance to what socialism really is! It must be America's own brand.

I guess it a modern day American version. Even your current version is to far left for most of us here. It works for you that’s cool but I don’t want it here.

What current version? We have a Conservative and Lib Dem coalition in government, we don't have a socialist one.

You’re current Govt I'm not saying its socialist just more controlling then ours.
Some of your laws would not pass Constitution muster here. I’m not knocking it so don’t take offence I works for you guys and that’s cool.

Now, back to the US Constitution and the idea of "Common Good".
Those like Hamilton basically said that the "all powerful Federal Government" (which is how they viewed it, rather than the States calling the shots) could do whatever it felt necessary, as long as it was for the false idea of "the Common Good".

The problem with "Common Good" is it doesn't exist as somehow a special interest gets the 'better end of the deal'. This is the case with ObamaCare, where the populace under the mistaken idea that mandating everyone obtain (buy) insurance would cut costs and bring prices down. This isn't what happened as coverage was decreased, premiums rose, and service continued to be as inefficient as before. None of this is expected to change as the system is implemented, other than the companies will see growing profits from forced patronage. The 'Common Good' doesn't exist in this case.

The larger the group, the less likely "Common Good" can survive corruption by Special Interests.

This is why the USC limited the Federal Government to a minimum level of invasiveness, leaving much of the details of operation to the State Level for handling. They are better positioned to determine how to best serve their own citizens.

I don't think you understand our government or the way we work so any comparision is worthless, your government is as controlling as anyone elses perhaps more so in some ways.
what do you mean you work for us?

Supposed to be a "t" there. It works for you. Sorry I warned you I would make future mistakes.

Your correct I don’t know much about your system of Govt but the perception (which may be wrong) is your basically a "welfare State" The Govt is involved in many aspects of your life and they restrict many freedoms. Again this could be wrong the most I know about your county really is you can’t have guns and knives, sky high taxes, and Govt health care. The point is I could care less. If your happy that’s great it works for your people. We just don’t want it here and unfortunately many of the Democrats would love your system here. I don’t want you guys to change what you have and I don’t want us to change what we have. I like our system I think over the last 50 years we have gone too far left and our Govt has gotten too involved in things it should not be.

He meant "it" works for you.

sigh..

One thing that your government is more controlling about than ours is what gay people are allowed to do, here they can enter civil partnerships and can join the Armed Forces. No one blinks an eyelid at either thing here.
We can also go to Cuba for holidays, in fact our government doesn't ban us going anywhere.
We've never had those awful segregation laws either.

Just a couple of things off the top of my head.

We don't have things perfect here but we don't gloat that we are the only ones who are 'free' either.

The perception is wrong actually, we can have guns if we want, they have to licensed though, knives carried for a proper purspose are no problem. We don't have government healthcare we have national healthcare which we pay for.

Our system was started from scratch when no one had insurance, medical care was paid for in cash, if you didn't have money you did without unless you could reach one of the free hospitals of which there were very few.
To have what we have you would have to stop all private insurance and pay through your taxes, employees pay some, employers pay some and the rest from taxes. Private insurance would then be paid for only by those who chose to but they'd still pay for the national one and see the same doctors, the companies would have no say in the running of the health service. All hospitals would belong to the health service not any company, all GPs would work for the health service not themselves or a company. It would be a huge reorganisation that I doubt any government could do in the USA. I doubt any politician has serious thoughts of having the same system as us.

That’s great I agree with you. I could care less what gay people do, I could care less if someone goes to Cuba.
You let gays do what they want we allow our citizens to be able to defend themselves from crime with the 4th amendment. We each have our issues

Yes those awful segregation laws that have been gone for 50 years. And you lovely Brits have never had a racism problem right?
I dont want this to be a US vs UK thread about whos better.

No we don't have a rascism problem, we are equal opportunity haters, we hate everyone.:)

That whole colonialism thing was kept in foreign countries rather than on your island.

No it wasn't. You need to look up Scottish, Welsh, Irish and Cornish history along with that of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Probably Northumbrian history too and the Shetlands. Oh and the Orkneys.

Your colonial policies are why our current President dislikes your people so much.

and that's supposed to bother us how? You lot are getting upset he isn't invited to the royal Wedding not us, we don't care. Told you we hate everyone.

So this was news to me so I looked into it. In order to get a fire arms license you need to demonstrate that they have "good reason to possess" firearms and must produce such "good reason" for each individual firearm applied for.
Note that FACs are NEVER granted for the purposes of self-defence or the defence of property.

So whats a Good Reason? How long would it take you if you decided you wanted to buy a gun from the day you get the application to the day you get the gun?

Is there a reason that the font is different sizes? Are you shouting at me? Losing it?

You stated that we weren't allowed guns, I said we were, you didn't go into anything more, I'm right, we are allowed guns lol. :)
