Speaking as one who has been labeled a cynic multiple times for over a decade....I like it, thank you for posting it, it changed my mood for the better

Well maybe there is not a thing wrong with healthy cynicism. You know the line that beneath every cynic there is meant to be a disillusioned idealist?? Glad song was ok.. I will try my luck again.. I love this song :) Wishes, Jxx

Sorry I did not respond sooner, I had no chance to listen to this before, I have liked the kinks for a very long time. It is rather apropos that I listen to this today though because just yesterday I was driving into work asking myself if I have any fight left in me..... and I have not really answered that question yet..... although, at this point I am leaning towards; I think I do.....

..... I don't want to go to hell, but if I do, it'll be cause of you.
Aha a context-less lyric it is dear Steve that prompts questions and wondering in me! :) for you it is not the song and but the lyric and not any lyric from even that song and but this lyric in particular.. it is an enigma! Is there another side of that lyric? Jx

Please don't take this out on me
'Cause you're the only thing that's keeping me alive
And I don't wanna wait for the down set date 'cause
I would rather end it all tonight

Actaully Jenna, I like those, but no that is no it. It is more along the lines of "Running down a dream by Tom Petty" with "Linkin Park - One Step Closer" thrown in because of work issues... I simply do not know if I have the fight left in me to carry on in those arenas at the moment

Being unsure of the fight in you this implies you have some one or some thing there is to be fought against yes?

This you put me on to Mister XS!

I love these songs of yours!! I might try to mix these onto your list :) Jxx

I have heard both before and like them. However "The Heavy - How You Like Me Now?" I heard only a couple before and have been trying to find out who did it and what the title was forever, thank you for posting it, my quest has ended.

It has come as a bit of a surprise to me, but of late I have been longing for my days as an Auto Mechanic which brings me to a song (an old song) that I was listening to on the day I walked out of a garage that I quit and was subsequently fired for quitting one of my mechanic jobs...and considering the song and the lyrics it is rather ironic that it came on the radio at that time

Thinking about this while driving home yesterday a song came on, that I had not heard on the radio for years, that plays to a much younger Xue (the one that hung out in biker bars and drank to much), but also I am realizing must be a part of the older model of Xue to accept what will be and move on...(not the biker bar and drinking bits though :))

Death she must have been your will
A bone beneath the reaper's veil
With your voice my belly sunk
And I began to feel so drunk
Candle candle on my clock
Oh lord I must have heard you knock me out of bed
As the flames licked my head and my lungs filled up black in their tiny little shack
It was real and I repent
All those messages you sent clear as day, but in the night
Oh I couldn't get it right

Could I suggest maybe there is no older Xue nor younger Xue.. that true Xue is unchanging beneath all of these other versions that come and go? :)

Hey I did not even know you were a mechanic in previous lifetimes! Well it seems we have more in common than just hanging out in biker bars ha! :)

JP awesome dude! :) AND I am sitting here thinking for like AGES.. I know I remember that JJ song from a movie.. so I managed to find it ha.. I so love this!!! :D

That is a very interesting song.. I should very much like to know what attract you to this here particular lyric??

Can't post videos, but I was listening to some old folk songs and appreciated these lyrics. Words to live by. For what it's worth, i was listening to Woody Guthrie, not the Kingston Trio. But the lyrics are the same. :)

Desert Pete
By The Kingston Trio
I was travellin' West a buckskin on my way to a cattle run
Cross a little cactus desert under a hot blisterin' sun
I was thirsty down to my toenails, stopped to rest me on a stump
But I tell ya I just couldn't believe it when I saw that water pump
I took it to be a mirage at first, it'll fool a thirsty man
Then I saw a note stuck in a bakin' powder can
This pump is old, the note began, but she works so give'er a try
I put a new sucker washer in er, you may find the leather dry

You've got to prime the pump, you must have faith and believe
You've got to give of yourself fore you're worthy to receive
Drink all the water you can hold, wash your face, cool your feet
Leave the bottle full for others, Thank You kindly, Desert Pete

Yeah, you'll have to prime the pump, work that handle like there's a fire
Under that rock you'll find some water I left in a bitters jar
Now there's just enough to prime it with so dontcha go drinkin' first
You just pour it in and pump like mad, buddy, you'll quench your thirst

You've got to prime the pump, you must have faith and believe
You've got to give of yourself fore you're worthy to receive
Drink all the water you can hold, wash your face, cool your feet
Leave the bottle full for others, Thank You kindly, Desert Pete

Well I found that jar and I tell ya nothin' was ever prettier to my eye
And I was tempted strong to drink it, 'cause that pump looked mighty dry
But the note went on have faith my friend, there's water down below
You got to give until you getI'm the one who ought to know
So I poured in the jar and I started pumpin' and I heard a beautiful sound
Of water bubblin' and splashin' up outta that hole in the ground
I took off my shoes and I drunk my fill of that cool refreshing treat
I thank the Lord and thank the pump and I thank old Desert Pete

You've got to prime the pump, you must have faith and believe
You've got to give of yourself fore you're worthy to receive
Drink all the water you can hold, wash your face, cool your feet

I cannot even find the Woody Guthrie version anywhere..

I absolutely love this! There is such a wisdom in this story.. I have never heard this before or even much of this kind of music thank you so much for sharing it Steve.. I have listened to this about forty times already and have got the chords and I am busy singing along (trying!) :) Awesome.. love it! I have duly shared this song in turn.. :) Jxx

Heard recently on the radio, and I liked it

great song, disturbing lyrics based on the topic

Also recently heard this and it was the right song at the right time

You kind of need of need to hear them both to get the gravitas, but I suspect lots of these songs are like that.
Well, both these are inspiring. They both rekindle me when my fire is out.

Born on the Sun - Dio

There's a crack in the rainbow
There's a hole in the sky
You believed in something
Now it's just a lie, yeah

No jokes from the jester
Not a laugh from the clown
And your world is upside down, yeah

You can hide in a circle
It's a way to survive
Be another number
At least you'd be alive

Or you can ride with the gypsy
He can take you to hell
And the answers screaming
In a voice you know so well

You - you're made of fire
Never higher
You were made to run

You - you're burning higher
You've got the fire
You were born on the sun

So take a walk with a wild one
It's the way that I've found
You can turn it upside down

My Way - Frank Sinatra

And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows and did it my way

[instrumental]

Yes, it was my way
