Reading Century University

Same Trick

Black Belt
Any one know of this university ?
Itā€™s supposed to be located in a place called - - City of Industry - located in Los Angeles/California.
I canā€™t find much information about it online, thereā€™s a webpage with pictures of old European style buildings and halls/(library), but I get the feeling those are from the University of Reading thatā€™s in England.
Is the Reading Century University I California some sort of fake ??

A real university would have a website with lots of information, photos, student interviews and all the bells and whistles!

To be honest, looks questionable to me
Yes, I also found that webpage, but it doesnā€™t seems to be the same as the ā€œreading century universityā€, however it could be the same people behind. I think itā€™s a scam planā€¦.

Why I also about this -

The son of one of my wifeā€™s acquaintances asked about this school, accordingly he had been offered to by(I donā€™t know the sum) a master degree certificate by some ā€œeducation handlerā€based in Beijing, I told him not to go on with this but I think he already has, his expression seemingly told so.

Sketchy, sketchy, sketchy.

Why do you ask?
As I outlined above in my response to Xue Sheng
Someone here has been offered to buy a masters degree certificate from this university and asked me if I know anything about that school.

Its interesting how many here in this smaller city I live in now(in China) think I (should)know about everything American and European just because Iā€™m a foreigner

This is the page I found, it may look professional but it seems suspect , just the name of this ā€œuniversityā€ made me think so, but thereā€™s also something about the pictures and text of the page
Give them a call, perhaps, with a list of questions.

It does looks legitimate, but so did that ā€˜womanā€™ from Thailand to whom I sent Ā£4000 šŸ˜

How do I post those laughing to tears smilies down at the ā€œlikesā€ area, I only seem to have the šŸ‘ option ??

Yes sure I could call that number but my interest to find out isnā€™t that great, and they probably have someone authentic sounding institution staff to answer.

It's fake and potentially malicious.

The site publishing its credentials is routed through Hong Kong and China, and it's hosted on Alibaba servers.

Detailed analysis:

The website liuxues.webceshi.vip, claiming to be associated with "Reading Century University," appears to be fraudulent based on multiple technical investigations.

The domain was registered on April 18, 2023, and is hosted on Alibaba Cloud (Singapore). However, further analysis shows that the IP address 43.154.123.248 is associated with Tencent Cloud (Hong Kong), under ASN AS132203, which belongs to Tencent, a major Chinese technology company. This is inconsistent with its claim of being a U.S.-based university.

The websiteā€™s DNS servers (ns1.bdydns.cn and ns2.bdydns.cn) are both based in China, further indicating that it is operated from a Chinese network rather than a legitimate institution in California. The SSL certificate is valid, but this does not confirm legitimacy.

Traceroute and ping tests indicate that traffic is routed through Hong Kong, with high latency suggesting a geographically distant server from the United States. The hosting provider's abuse contact is listed as "16 Collyer Quay, #18-29, Income at Raffles, Singapore", which is a well-known address for virtual offices rather than an actual operational location.

The use of Tencent Cloud and Alibaba Cloud infrastructure, combined with recent domain registration, lack of accreditation in U.S. education databases, and misrepresentation of location, strongly suggests that this website is not a legitimate university but rather a fraudulent entity.

This website should not be trusted. It is recommended to verify any educational institution through official sources such as the U.S. Department of Education, California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE), or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) before engaging with them.

I will not speak to the knowledge part of your comment, but it simply takes common sense to understand nothing about it makes sense and red flags should be flying right away.

Here in China some(lot of) folks put weight in words that give the sense of being - big, rich, intelligent/smartā€¦..and such, it can be something simple as a part of shoes have the word ā€œfashionā€ printed on them then the footwear is ā€œbelievedā€ to be fashionable, and that itā€™s an English word it makes the product somewhat more authentic and fashionable, it doesnā€™t even have to be spelled right .

So this ā€œReading Century Universityā€ have all the wordings to make it genuinely true and grandiose šŸ˜

Good on ya to ask others about it.

You're welcome.

I did the legwork but I asked GPT to summarise my findings. It took me about an hour but was intensely interesting. Their site is vulnerable to XSS attacks (if I knew their server version, which I don't other than that it's running on Apache), header insertions, brute-forcing, and DDoS. All of which are illegal. So I stopped entertaining those ideas.

This is the most damning evidence (aside from general landing page vulnerabilities):

The hosting provider's abuse contact is listed as "16 Collyer Quay, #18-29, Income at Raffles, Singapore", which is a well-known address for virtual offices rather than an actual operational location.
