Actually, most of the TMAs that people train have been around for less than 150 years. Judo was developed in the late 1800s. Shotokan Karate is... what... early 1900's? BJJ was early 1900's.Yeah, that's why I put TMA in quotes in my last post. A lot of people seem to use it to describe east asian martial arts. When in reality, most martial arts in use today have very interesting histories. Of course there are a couple that haven't been around for quite as long. Sambo, Krav Maga, TKD etc which have "only" been around for 60-70 years-ish.
They all have roots, but the contemporary iterations of these styles are almost all relatively young.
