I understand that there will be a movie based on Edward Gorey's book, 'The Doubtful Guest'. I like Gorey...he's macabre and strange: two fine qualities.

I thought it might be cool to play with his work some; so, from The Gashlycrumb Tinies, here's how poor Hector met his untimely end.

Great Job. I need someone to teach me Photoshop and all the bells and whistles.

Does anyone else modify images?

Go ahead and post whatcha got!

Ok...for the first tutorial, we'll do a simple cut and paste, mmmkay?

In photoshop, I opened two images. The one on the left, Cosmo, will be pasted into the one on the right, Sen and Faceless. We'll make it look like Faceless is offering Sen a little Cosmo.

The highlighted tool on the far right is the Magic Wand Selection tool. When clicked in an image, it will select an are of the same (or roughly the same) color. Use it to select the white parts around Cosmo. Hold down the Shift key to select more than one area.

Ok...since we want to copy Cosmo and NOT the whitespace around him, click the Select Menu button at the top and choose Inverse. This selects the exact opposite of whatever is currently selected. In this case, the command will select all of Cosmo.

Then go to Edit-->Copy (ctrl-c)

Now, click anywhere in the right hand picture

Go to Edit-->Paste (ctrl-v)

and, voila, Cosmo is now in the middle of the right hand picture :)

But, alas, Cosmo is a bit too big to fit in Faceless' hand.

Go to Edit-->Transform-->Scale

Note the new fields that appear at the top of the Photoshop window! You can modify heigth, width, lean...all sorts of stuff. For now, simply reduce Cosmo's height and width to 60% by changing those numbers.

When you've completed that, click the check-mark button over toward the right.

Now, click the tool in the upper right-hand corner of your tool bar. This tool allows you to move on object (Cosmo) wherever he looks good (Faceless' hand). Go ahead and move him.

All that's left to do is Save your image.

Photoshop saves, automatically, as a psd file. You'll need to select another format, if that's what you wanna do.
