Thanks for sharing. I can relate to every word you said, having been in the same leadership position as you. Nine Summer camps as an adult leader and I often wonder if I made a difference in any scouts life. I like to think I did but who knows. I remember working with a scout who struggled with the flotation requirement, where he had to remove his trousers and tie the legs into a square knot and fill the pants with air, placing them around his neck to act as a flotation device. He was a strong swimmer but he had a lot of trouble with this. I worked with him in the ocean (Camp Fiesta Island, San Diego CA). The ocean added a higher level of difficulty than a pool but he finally got it. Many many more experiences with other scouts in similar challenges during those nine summer camps.
