It goes back about 16 years ago when I was in high school. I started playing role playing games in the library with some friends and the game we started with was based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth. I was a hobbit. When I named my character, I borrowed F'nor from my favorite author Anne McCaffrey's Dragon Riders of Pern series. Then, because the character I was playing was a hobbit, Furfoot became my last name.
Now I use that name everywhere I go online because I know that no one else would have used that ID.
*waits for everyone to stop muttering, "what a dork"*
