Hello Everyone
I am 32 years old, ive been working out since i was around 16 on and off.

I decided to do fitness boxing, and after a month i switched to Kickboxing, because i wanted to do the real thing.
My wife asks me why the love i wanna do this at an age of 32 years old, also because ive never done any kind of martial arts.

Im not really sure myself, but i do enjoy it so far, i feel like im learning and can just suck up knowledge each training, while getting my *** kicked for now.
Really gotta get used to get kicked/punched in the head, but they say it will get better over time.

As i told you i am used to work out alot, so my condition is great and i have decent strength.

I do running around 15-20km a week
2 fullbody workouts
and 2 kickboxing days.

But i feel like my weight lifting is off, i now and then get injured a little bit by barbell squats / deadlifts.
Should i switch this up? im not sure its worth doing these 2 for longevity, same with bench press tbh.

I am wondering what you guys do for weight lifting? i wanna do all my training to benefit my kick boxing as much as possible, not because i wanna compete, i suppose im way to old for that now.

I just wanna be better, feel better, and i like that i get more flexible. My limps just feel better.

I am 180CM
i weight 88-91KG

Can you guys assist? or give suggestions?

Sounds like your body needs rest. You may need to pace yourself a little better so that the body can heal. Martial Arts at 32 is normal. It may not be the majority age that people start, but there's nothing strange about it.

So there's a couple different things in your post to address.

The first is that you can actually still compete if you wanted. You won't be a professional kickboxer or anything, but there are absolutely people who started in their 30s or later and have had fights - gyms will sometimes arrange this, and a good fight coordinator will put people with others at the same level. I know @drop bear's gym does a camp where they get people to a full contact fight within 6 weeks; not sure the ages. But that is always a possibility.

Now to your actual questions:

Did these injuries start once you started martial arts training, or have they been an ongoing thing you're just worried about now?

If they just started then yeah, you probably need more rest. Getting beat up takes a toll on the body, especially as you start entering your 30s, and if you're not used to it. You're also using muscles in very different ways than you used to, which means your body needs time to adapt to that. If it's something that's been going on for a while before you made any changes to your routine, that means either A) you're lifting too much, B) your form is off, C) you got an injury at some point that you're unaware of (ie: rotator cuff injury) or D) you're mistaking natural aches and pains for injury (both hurt, but they're two very different things).

There's no reason you should have to stop squats or deadlifts. Unless you think you've suffered an actual injury, then go to a doctor or physical therapist to get yourself checked out.

And what is your motivation for working out? Is it too be have a "beach body", to be fit now, to have longevity into old age, or to improve your kickboxing? The answer for that (and there might be more than one, try ranking them maybe) will determine the best way for you to work out.

Quick examples just focusing on one aspect, if I was in your position and I cared a lot about longevity, I'd probably cut back the running and start cycling or swimming more. That's because I get knee pain from fencing, and running on concrete (which is what's near me) is bad for your knees long-term. However, if I was focusing more on martial arts training I might try to replace it with more plyometrics, things like mountain climbing or bear crawls, and HIIT (high-intensity interval training), since that will help cardio related to fighting more.

I am half tempted to do a Masters boxing at fifty.
Get myself a title belt.

Welcome to Martial Talk, Pattie32.

Good luck, buddy, you can do it, just be careful.

And - Do Not get used to getting punched and kicked in the head.

Do you have any rest days at all? If not you're definitely over training. Where is the injury? If knees, it's the running that's compounding the issue. If back, it may be form in the squats and lifts. If you feel pain working out STOP TRAINING IMMEDIATELY.

Bench presses are usually fine and safe (safer with free weights), as are good old fashioned push ups.

I am wondering what you guys do for weight lifting?

I see an exercise physiologist twice weekly. Forward seated rows, lat pull downs, tricep pull downs, lunges, squats, shoulder presses, Zottman curls, leg extensions, and medicine ball throws. Two sets each up to 10.

I used to do a kettlebell regimen which was amazing, but took about an hour a day. I remain convinced it's the best way to lift weights. And cheapest.

I now walk instead of run. Sometimes do farmer's walks with 6kg kettlebells for about 4km.

Yoga twice weekly.

Hyōhō Niten Ichi-Ryū and Musō Shinden-Ryū once weekly.

Remember to rest!
