I believe Shuri Ryu kata Go Pei Sho.I came across this video. It reminds me of New Zealand Haka more than Karate. In the Dojo I attend they is very little yelling involved. Does anyone know what style this is from? (ear rings and bracelet are a nice touch)
Somebody said, "Ahh.. I see Karate Karen (Sarah Colande) is making her rounds again. Her kata/form is all fucky. How she got to black is beyond me. Probably from some McDojo. The first time I saw this, from her deep bow, I knew this was going to be a clown show. First thing they teach you as a beginner is don't bow so lovely low. Then she started screaming, and then I know I was in for a sour tasting treat.
I did Shotokan Karate (or Shotokan-ryu. Ryu means style or school) for about 8 years before moving. I read somewhere she's doing Shuri-ryu. I'm not familiar with their katas or style.
Here are 26 Shotokan Katas (traditional, established sequence of movements) If you watch a whole one, the first kata in the clip is at normal speed, the second is slower as a break down of individual movements. Both are done very well. #23 (Tekki Shodan) has good examples of what a "crouching down" (horse-stance) is supposed to look like. This is my preferred kata, went to championships and still got my team-kata trophy for it, some place. We didn't scream like her, we let the snaps of our gi (uniform) do the "yelling". Knees pointing out like hers would have earned me a whack with the shinai. I can't see her feet, but since her knees are out her toes most likely are too. Oh man, I could critique her movements all day.
The main styles or schools of Karate are Goju, Shito, Shotokan and Wado. She's doing one of the other 70+ others out there, Shuri-ryu. I think she's trying to do the Go Pai Sho kata, but I could be wrong, I'm not familiar with Shuri-ryu.
I found this one dude, from where I think she got her inspiration from.
I think this girl did a much better job.
This dude too, great upper body movement, but his booty wiggle would cost him some points."
