Jockstrap recommendations

Hi all, I've recently begun MMA classes and the instructor recommended that we wear jockstraps with cups for protection. Does anyone have suggestions based on experience?

Welcome to Martial Talk, Mike.

You could ask the guys at your school, or ask a salesman in a sporting goods store.

Or just wing and get one. If you don’t like that one, get a different one.

But definitely get one.

On the off chance this is real, I used Shock Doctor's compression shorts and cup combo.

Past tense because I don't use one in BJJ.

For mma doesn’t really matter just something cheap will do as frankly you really shouldn’t be getting hit there often (yes well aware accidents happen which is why you need one )

Now if you were doing something like Krav Maga where the groin is a major target then yeah you’d need something good

Do not wear the metal long strings Muay Thai type ones. One of our fighters used one like that he'd got when training in Thailand. After winning his MMA bout and getting back to the changing room he felt he needed to go to the toilet NOW! Alas he'd tied all the strings up in elaborate knots and couldn't get the groin guard off. As I heard it the others in the changing room didn't know whether to laugh or cry. 😁
Never lend anyone your groin guard, reffing a fight I walked over to check first fighter just to see his team mate who'd been in the previous fight take his groin guard out and pass it to the fighter in the ring who popped it down his shorts. Ugh.

You've been absent here for a while, and THIS is what you weigh in on? :D

Sharing cups? I think it's a traditional custom amongst manly men TMA practitioners dating back to Master Hung Lo. You just don't understand male bonding. ;)
