The other day I found this picture. I downloaded it without identifying it. I tried google picture search. but it did not come up for me. Can anyone identify it for me? I believe it to be from a Japanese Temple, but, I could be wrong. thanks.

I really like it myself. I was searching on google for Japanese temple pictures. There were many sites listed as having photos and I spent probably over an hour. I saved a bunch pf pictures. and this is one of them. My wife asked where the temple was and of course I hadn't saved that information. And couldn't find it again.

The info here reads, "Generated with AI." So, it may not be an existing temple...

Earlier when I was looking for this picture and I could not find it. But, I found several that were similar. (and of course I came across the one I couldn't find earlier.) Thanks again.

When I visited Japan with my wife, we were able to visit two temples along with multiple shrines. One was the Tōdai-ji Temple in Nara. The temple is massive and houses one of the largest Buddha statues in Japan. The grounds surrounding it are filled with the friendly Nara deer that you can pet (if you have a treat in hand) If you ever visit Japan, you should definitely make a stop in Nara to see this temple.

The other temple was Kinkaku-ji in Kyoto. It had a nice park surrounding it and the temple itself was gold in color. I enjoyed this one too but not as much as Nara. Looking forward to going back to Japan again in hopefully 2026.

Itā€™s CGI; the kanji on the sign boards is non-sensical!

The biggest enclosed wooden building in the world!

If they smell crackers in your pockets, they will mug you and cover you in their saliva!

Yes I agree, but stay there a couple of nights as thereā€™s so much to see. The local government say tourists seldom stay overnight which doesnā€™t help their economy. I visited the nearby village of ā€˜Yagyu no Satoā€™ (30 minute bus ride) of Yagyu (Shinkage) Ryu swordsmanship and it was the best place I ever visited in Japan and my girlfriend and I had it all to ourselves!

Yes but itā€™s thronged with loud, shoving visitors to the extent that the experience is totally spoiled.

Consider Genkoan, a temple on the outskirts of Kyoto (bus ride away), instead. Itā€™s beautiful with itā€™s Zen round and square windows, itā€™s ā€˜blood ceilingsā€™, (bloodstained floorboards from the seppuku of several Samurai from the siege of Fushimi castle) and itā€™s very, very quiet if you go in the morning.

Hereā€™s a bloodstain of the back of a samuraiā€™s head; you can actually see the straggerly hair that was on the back of his head!

Oh yes, the deer were quite aggressive when it came to getting crackers! They are spoiled from all the tourists trying to bribe them. The Kinkaku-ji did have a lot of tourists, very congested. I don't think I need to go back there again anytime soon, though I definitely will consider Genkoen. Seeing samurai bloodstains is pretty amazing. It looks like the floorboards were moved from the castle and made into the ceiling!

šŸ˜† Yeah. My girlfriend was wearing a black coat with crackers in her pocket. The deer really went after her and covered her in saliva. She looked like something you might see on Pornhub! šŸ˜³

I suppose you have to see it to tick it off the list.

Thatā€™s right. The boards were left stained with imprints of about 12 samuraiā€™s seppuku at the end of the siege. They were uncertain what to do with them so the head priest at Genkoan said heā€™d incorporate them into the temple ceiling so ā€˜ā€¦there souls could be appeased by daily prayer.ā€™
