Yes I agree, but stay there a couple of nights as there’s so much to see. The local government say tourists seldom stay overnight which doesn’t help their economy. I visited the nearby village of ‘Yagyu no Sato’ (30 minute bus ride) of Yagyu (Shinkage) Ryu swordsmanship and it was the
best place I ever visited in Japan and my girlfriend and I had it all to ourselves!
Yes but it’s
thronged with loud, shoving visitors to the extent that the experience is totally spoiled.
Consider Genkoan, a temple on the outskirts of Kyoto (bus ride away), instead. It’s beautiful with it’s Zen round and square windows, it’s ‘blood ceilings’, (bloodstained floorboards from the seppuku of several Samurai from the siege of Fushimi castle) and it’s very, very quiet if you go in the morning.
