A little of all. During sparring, alot of bruises, sore feet from catching an elbow, toe ligaments torn from bending back too far, walking into a sidekick doing a 360, jammed fingers, just learning mistakes. But the one time I let a white belt woman who was tired (but happened to be an ex army mp unknown to me) punch me and broke the top rib under my clavicle next to the sternum, that took me two months of no exercise to heal. Won't let anybody have carte blanche again.
After doing 200 ea. front, round, side, ax, crescents, we were practicing tornado round kicks up and down the line. After quite a few of those, I guess I was too tired and loose to keep it together and my knee went one way and body another and I dislocated it. I think that was just too much exercise.
I had to do a 360 jump from a backstance to a backstance, same position in an ITF form, Chung Gwen and too much practice of that hurt my knee ligaments which resulted in an MRI and brace. Too much of a perfectionist. I keep seeing others get passed who just do this awful.
For breaking, I damaged a nerve in my shoulder from a palm strike through concrete, broke first time, but I was numb on that arm for a month and my shoulder hurt.
I also tore a ligament in my foot when I did the flying sidekick through three boards. Who knows why, maybe just an old bod which can only take so much. I broke it on the first try also.
And then I pretty much finished my bad knee, doing jumpback kick/jump spin heel combo to get 2nd. That damage will never get repaired unless I opt for a mechanical knee.
I have even gotten hurt during stretching which the master says to bob your head to the floor in a split stretch. Did that, and learned years later why you should not bounce in a stretch. My hamstring was hurt for over a year. I also get hurt when I don't warmup enough but usually that is over within a week or two.
Least, God willing, I have never gotten a bad head shot. A bloody nose, lip but that's it. I think my tournament sparring days are over though. Enough of all that! TW
