Industries that thrive on recession

I had my best year yet last year, and 09 is off to a record start.
It's fun working with all the new startups.

I heard a story on NPR a few weeks back on how the porn industry is actually feeling this recession. Larry Flint wanted to go to congress to ask for some of the bailout money. I would pay money to see those hearings.

Well, since the bailouts really ****ing us all, I guess it makes sense to at least pay for it eh? :D

One of my buddies got his auctioneers license last summer and started doing auctions (estate, real estate, gallery, industrial) in December. So far he's done very well. I was very worried for him when he quit his steady job to strike out on his own but so far folks are turning up as they see auctions as a way to get bargain prices on items they'd otherwise not be able to buy.

Heh. Web design and hosting and photography, sillys. :D

The last depression I think a few did real well.

1) The Mafia
2) Bank Robbers
3) Moon shine runners
4) Smugglers

Hmmm, I think a few like Capone, Dillinger, and B&C did quite well for a time.

Sounds like some 'interesting times' are upon us!

McDonalds is always a good buy in a recession as people trade down.

It'd be an awful time to get married--think of the skimpy wedding gifts you'd get!

Hmmm.... *makes note to mention we don't want McD coopins for wedding gifts*

I see things as "corporate guy gets let go, decides to pursue own business, needs me to build a website, keep it running, and help him do that internet thing right".

Awesome!

(And all this time I thought you were just trying to be associated with the sin industries )
