Imi Lichtenfeld's War Stories?

I am amazed by the life of Imi Lichtenfeld, and I was wondering if any of Imi's previous students or history buffs could share some of his war stories.

Not exactly a war story, but on his way to Israel on a passenger ship, someone fell into the water and he jumped into the freezing water to save him. A tendon in his cheek was frozen (in some way permanently damaged) and his nickname since has been Imi half-smile.
