A victim of an attempted car theft told police he thought he killed the burglar after the car alarm woke him up Friday morning, police said.
He chased the would-be burglar, a black male about six feet tall and in his 20s, to Byrd Middle School where he tackled the man, Burton said.
The burglar pulled out a knife and apparently stabbed the victim twice -- one small wound in the shoulder and one small puncture on his chest, police said.
The victim then beat the burglary suspect to the point that he thought he had killed him, Burton said.
