Video 1:
She kept trying to do the same thing. A more skilled foe would have made Her pay for that.
She also has a weak Front Kick.
She seems to lean out of Round Kicks a whole lot more than She really should.
On a few occassions, during Side Kicks, She kept Her back hand around Her Ribs, as oppose to Hip.
In the Step Sparring, the initial move was fine, but each time, the followup was poor.
I would not use Her as an example.

Video 2:
Instantly better ITF Style Punching.
Doesnt lean out of Round Kicks.
Faster Back Kick.
Clearly excellent Balance.
Isnt pointlessly Retreating like the previous one.
She seems to crosstrain like nobodies business.
Poor Momentum on Flying Side Kick.
Slightly poor Hand Position at times.
Overall, well Trained, and could well be used to represent what She is. Much more than Video 1.

Video 3:
Now My Fingers are tired. So, Good Flow, Good Technique, probably shouldnt be a Role Model, all else is swell. :)

Yes, but . . . isn't she cute?

For real though, I agree for the most part. She seems like she definitely needs to work on both her power and aggression. She must not have been putting much into those jump spinning back kicks because her opponent was walking right through them.

Still, she has pretty good form and looks really nice in those still pics.

I've always loved this girl, ever since I first discovered her a couple of years ago. She has a handful of full matches on YouTube if you're so inclined to go looking.

BTW, Girl #1 (Silvia Farigu) and Girl #2 (Katya Solovey) actually met each other in a match earlier this year. It's nothing special, but interesting nonetheless:

I know she won a bronze medal in the Olympics in '08. But honestly, I know very little about Olympic TKD. It's foreign territory for me.

That was interesting to watch!

I also didnt comment much, as while I could assess what She was doing in the Olympics, I cant speak for KKW Methodology.

Cute? I didn't realise that MT had turned into a girlie site to discuss the relative merits of girls based on their looks?

BTW Sarah Stevenson is a role model, both her parents have just died after both battling terminal illness, she's carrying on and wanting to win a gold medal in London for them, she was cheated out of the chance of gold by corrupt judging at the last Olympics.

Is there a point in singling out women TKDists or are we just to judge them on their 'cuteness'?

I'm up for cuteness. But that's a far cry from porn, tez. Enjoying some competent and cute women doesn't make this a girlie site.

Most martial arts women I know would bash you for calling them 'cute', in fact most women I know would bash you for calling them cute, cute is small, powerless, a pet, something diminutive, a child. If you find a woman attractive say so, if she's sexy say so but for crying out loud 'cute'? It's a word we use about children not women.

Well I only going to say, I like more the ITF style sparring that the WTF style sparring. It seems to me ITF style sparring is better because usens both hands and feet so it's a more balanced type of sparring, i don't like the sinewave forms of ITF but it's sparring definetively for me is more balanced and more suitable for a bare knuckle fight outside the dojang.

Maybe that's a British thing. I'd be flattered to be considered cute.

Hey wassup with that sinewave crap anyway?
I use to work at a ITF style school but they didnt do the sinewave and I became aware of it when we went to tournaments.

I enjoy watching women fight, whether it's MMA, TKD, or whatever else--both for aesthetic reasons and also because they bring a different kind of energy into their matches that is sometimes a refreshing change of pace from watching dudes beat on each other.

I obviously agree wholeheartedly with everything you said.

I agree. I think of it as "kickboxing lite."

To be honest, I only pay about 10% of my attention to Olympic TKD and that's entirely because of the sparring rules.

So we will be having a thread soon of 'cute' TKD men then?

As Steve said, this aversion to the word "cute" must be a British thing. I just turned 30 and if a girl called me cute then I'd be pretty happy about it.

Yea it must be a British thing. Or maybe a feminist thing. I have heard some Britts use the word cute in reference to people that were not children. I had a British roommate in my 20's and he used cute quite often when talking about a female.

It's definitely a British thing, I'd hat to be called cute, a cute man is quite disturbing. To us, cute has overtones of twee, saccharine, which is never a good thing.

I agree with you though SPX, i also enjoy watching the women fight for exactly the same reasons. I also like (and i probably shouldn't admit this on a public forum) sparring against them. One of my instructors old students came to class just before christmas, and she's been competing in ITF at a national level, and when i sparred against her, it just went to show that good technique and speed can beat good technique and power.

Why is it a bad thing when guys say they've been sparring with women? There's only a few girls in my team, so whenever I get the chance to train with someone outside of class for sparring, it's usually one of the guys. They're senior to me and therefore pull their kicks or generally take better care as I'm still learning, but I doubt they hold back because I'm a girl? At least I hope they dont...
