GI with pocket

I recall seeing someone post that they wanted a pocket in their GI. Some brands have a very small pocket in the front corner of the jacket. He is one with a pocket in the back of the pants.

Just realized my Ronin Gi has a pocket un corner of jacker. 2"x3" so can't put much in it.

I once saw an Iaidoka who left the top edge of this breast badge unsewn so he could use it as a pocket! He used it to carry his cigarettes 🙄

You can actually use the front of the dōgi as a reasonably good pocket; for a booklet, papers or tenugui, in fact Roman senators used the fold created in the front of their toga as a pocket. It was known as a ‘sinus’.

#opr1945 have you looked into Japanese tenugui, the handy little towels used by the Japanese people and martial artists? They’re very collectible; I have a wardrobe shelf-full!

Very nice. You can get nice colours and profound aphorisms and adages upon them and they take up less space than dōgi!

It is slightly larger than just over a foot by just over 2 feet. very handy and also soft. I really like it. Got it from China and very cheap. I was surprised by how nice it is.

I have some real beauties and find then very collectible.

In Japanese public toilets, they do not install hand dryers or paper towels dispensers (🤷🏽), so everyone carries a tenugui around on which to dry their hands and the cooler the design, the better!

You seriously underestimate how cold village halls are in this country. But oh, how I have longed for a gi with pockets
Yes but a true Karateka burns with the heat of a blast furnace! 🔥

I haven’t even broken out into a slight sweat at the gym because it’s so cold. 🥶 In fact I have to wear a long-sleeved thermal vest under my lord-sleeved t-shirt. Roll on the Spring…

We have had some seriously cold days and nights this year in New England, but after an intense Kenpo session I don't even feel it because I am so hot. Another benefit of the Kenpo training! 🥵🥋

Yes well, we've all noticed your heated blasts lately

At the risk of embarrassing my self, I will respond. I have serious allergies, all year round. The result is serious nasal drainage, necessitating the frequent use of a handkerchief. I tried just stuffing it inside my Gi. However it would frequently slip out. And I would have to stop and pick it up off the floor. Not cool or sanitary.

My solution add a pocket to the inside of my Gi. It works very well. I would not put keys, wallet or cell phone in it, but it works well for a handkerchief.

Note: I added the yellow trim as a result of what I saw on a thread in this forum some time ago.

It’s claimed that allergies are present because of a life in a too clean environment, so if the handkerchief frequently drop to the floor and then as frequently used to rub one’s nose one may actually become free from allergies??

Dude, that’s what your sleeves are for; wipe your nose on them 😉

YES! I can’t believe the entire corpus of the biomedical community has missed this!
