Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?

A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this money?

A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?

A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?

A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?

A. Shut up.

That is funny. Too bad it is soo close to the truth. I wonder how many people are going to use the money to pay off bills?

That's the plan. I figure all of the checks will go to either buying gas or paying off the debts incurred by not being able to afford gas.

I'm somewhere between paying off my credit card (under $300) or replacing the back door; the track is going and the sliding door keeps coming off and getting stuck. But I'm certainly not going to go buy something frivolous with it.

Yep, that sounds about right.

I'll be paying on my car loan with it and I will finally be 'debt free but the house' which is scheduled for May 16th. I was on schedule for May 2nd, but the brakes went out on my car a couple weeks ago and it set me back $450 to get them fixed. OUCH! I'm glad I had an emergency fund set aside.

I plan to use mine to pay for half a tank of gas... that's probably what'll cost.
Put $10.00 in today... didn't even pass 3 gallons... sheesh!

It is only a taxpayer getting their own money back if they actually paid taxes.

Nope. Even if you did not pay taxes but have more than $3,000 in income, you can still get a rebate, providing you file a return. I guess thats why we have rich people. To pay for all the things that poor people cant.

:D. That wouldn't even buy you one gallon over here (tho' I suppose it balances out as all your travel distances are bigger too).

A tax rebate? Hmmm? Anyone would think there was an election coming ROFL.

I worked with a guy from Britain and I use to tell him about my daily commute to work from Albuquerque to Santa Fe (about 60 miles one way...) and he told me how much of England that would cover...

Normally I would agreed but the guy who came up with the idea isn't running...

Isn't that the truth? I regularly make 3 hour trips, and I've had a 70 mile commute in the past. I guess its all relative :)

you still get a rebate - but it isn't your money....it is someone else's you are getting back....

True, but he wants to keep is party in power...so same thing....

except that this has to be approved by CONGRESS

and WHO controls congress right now?

here is a hint, it isnt the Republicans.....

Guess what? If you're not paying taxes your not getting your taxes back; you're getting someone else's money. That was my point, a point which I (as a taxpayer) am not happy about...

When your guy says "Hey, let's do something stupid" and the other guys says "Yeah, I agree, let's do something stupid"... well... it's still stupid. And at that point the "us vs them" is pretty silly

except I dont know that it is really stupid.

giving people more money to spend DOES stimulate the economy.

Oh well that's different and okay then... :uhyeah:

Well sure, but he knows it's not gonna happen, unless McCain pulls peace outta his butt.
