The first International Day of the Girl is on 11th October 2012. Many organisations are planning action and campaigns to raise awareness of the plight of many girls in the world, not just in the Third World but also in the more developed countries and to hel educate and make better futures for girls who in many places are less than second class citizens.

It's also a chance for us in the' developed' world to consider how we see girls and what sort of role models we provide for them.

Interesting. I'm still on Girl Scout mailing lists and I haven't seen them publish anything about this.

I'm forwarding this to the moms of girls in my martial arts club - I think they'll be interested.
