I worked during Forced Busing many years ago. Got stationed on a lot of bus rides. When it was mostly black kids it was no problem, when it was mostly white kids it was no problem, but when it was half and half there were a lot of fights. Usually every other day.
Fighting on a bus sucks. Whacking your back on the seat rails really hurts, getting knocked down between the seats is dangerous - it's not difficult covering up, just hard to get back up, especially when they're stomping.
Getting thrown against the accordion doors is real scary when the bus is going fast. Makes you grab anything and hope.
These were all public buses, not school buses. Always felt bad for patrons that weren't students, they were scared silly.
