My son and I saw an exciting sight tonight at 11:30 pm. The weather outside is 39 degrees. Although bats in the area aren't really that unusual, having them take up residence at a neighbor's house is not common. I managed to try to get some pictures and two videos.

The pictures are pretty dark, but if you look closely, the bats could be seen. I've tried to lighten up the pictures to make them more visible.

Not sure if MT takes MP4 videos. Gotta try...

Doesn't look like it works. I'll have to see if I can find a converter for MP4 to something else that is supported by MT.

I tried converting the MP4 videos to MOV, but it looks like both files are just a tad too big to be uploaded. :( I don't know if there is any other type of file converter that also makes it a smaller file to upload to MT.

Oh well, anyway, I hope the pictures are enough to give you an idea.

They look to be big browns... awesome ... placement of a bat house should encourage those guys to roost (if not right now with winter rapidly approaching) then when it gets warmer again.
going to http://www.batcon.org/ or specifically http://www.batcon.org/index.php/get-involved/install-a-bat-house.html should be of help. :uhyeah:

Good tips. Not sure if the neighbor would be keen on building a bat house nearby, although they probably would rather the bats be in a bat house than their own home.

Very cool. The pictures look like it could be from a movie, they're that wild. Nice catch with the camera Ceicei. :)

I know bats are useful creatures, and I'm not bothered by them. They are quite common around here. My only concern with bats is that they have a high incidence of carrying rabies, so I don't think I'd want a colony of bats roosting at my home.

Still very cool though.

Very cool. When I was in Austin, TX this summer, I got to see the bats at the Congress St. bridge. Millions of bats nest in this bridge, and they fly out every evening at sunset. It is a sight to see...millions of bats flyign out down the river.

Peace,
Erik
