Suspected thief chased, wrestled to the ground on South Barlow Road

A suspected thief burglarized the wrong vehicle Sunday night in Barlow.
The man was chased down and captured by the victim's boyfriend, an aspiring mixed martial arts fighter.

The boyfriend, Tyler Fryland, 25, of Donald, had to spot his opponent nearly 100 pounds. The 5 foot 9 Fryland weighs 147 pounds. His 5 foot 9 opponent weighed 240.

When cornered, the man told them he was a gang member and that he was "strapped," a street term for armed. Fryman tackled him anyway and took him down. Wayne Griesenauer helped.When the man continuing struggling and trying to escape, Fryman applied a karate restraint.

He and Ashley's father kept the man pinned down until Canby Police arrived. Canby officers detained the man until Clackamas County Sheriff's deputies arrived.

I used to work with a former deputy from Clackamas County who is now in prison for armed robbery.
