In a bout that was a grappling clinic, it was no surprise that it ended in submission. New Jersey native Kurt Pellegrino won by rear naked choke over Fabricio Camoes at 4:20 in the second round in front of a partisan crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
In the first round, the two showed off beautiful jiu-jitsu. Camoes started off strong, taking Pellegrino's back while still on his feet, and tried to sink in a rear naked choke. Pellegrino survived by planting Camoes on his head and shaking him off. The pair then scrambled around on the ground, each trying for submissions.
Pellegrino came out strong in the second round, with a takedown that led to a mount. Pellegrino continued to control on the ground until he applied a rear naked choke. Camoes held on as long as he could, but tapped to give Pellegrino the win.
"Batman" has quietly put together a four-fight winning streak, with Pellegrino's last loss nearly two years ago. The dominant performance he put on tonight definitely makes a statement to the crowded lightweight class of the UFC.
