01-02-2010 09:25 PM:Jake Ellenberger is looking more like a UFC fighter with each round that passes. He was unbelievably impressive during his debut against Carlos Condit at Ultimate Fight Night 19. Even in a loss, he overwhelmed Condit at times with aggression. Tonight, he had to exhibit a lot more patience and discipline against Mike Pyle. At the start of the second round, Ellenberger, 24, landed a big knee to the body and followed it with a right hand that floored Pyle. Referee Yves Lavigne jumped into stop things at 0:22 of the second giving Ellenberger his first UFC win.
"This is the greatest feeling in the world," said Ellenberger. "Mike's a tough guy, he's got a good guard and he's tough on the ground. I should've stuck to my gameplan."
"Quicksand" Pyle is nasty submission fighter, pulled guard from the get-go and controlled the fight at the start. He was trying to score a finish from the bottom for four-plus minutes of the opening round. When Ellenberger (22-5, 1-1 UFC) finally got into a dominant position, he crushed Pyle with some body shots to close the round. Pyle (19-6, 1-2 UFC) stayed down on his knees for a few seconds after the round had ended. He opened the second with a sloppy takedown attempt. Seconds later, Pyle got caught by the big knee.
