01-10-2010 10:53 PM:Former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown was eager to shake off his loss to Jose Aldo. He did that tonight with a quick rear-naked choke win over Anthony Morrison, submitting the WEC newcomer in 1:54 of the first round.
Brown easily controlled Morrison with strong wrestling before sinking in the rear-naked choke to end the fight.
"I just wanted to win so badly, and it was very important to get back in the cage," Brown said after his win.
After Brown was TKO'd by current champ Jose Aldo in November, he wanted to fight immediately. He called, emailed and texted WEC matchmaker Sean Shelby, begging for a quick fight. With this win, Brown showed that he still is a top fighter in the WEC's deep featherweight division.
Shalorus wins ugly bout over Jansen
Dave Jansen's undefeated streak was broken by Kamal Shalorus at WEC 46, winning a 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 decision.
Shalorus, a world-class wrestler who competed for Iran and was an alternate for the Olympics, won the fight by landing hard but technically unimpressive strikes and avoiding Jansen's takedown attempts. Shalorus' punches were loopy and windmilling but effective in causing Jansen damage.
