"I went and saw a specialist this morning who told me I need to have the minor procedure," said Alves. TMZ reports the procedure will be done in New York.
Also from TMZ:
Alves says he expects to be sidelined from fighting for three weeks -- but expects to be back in the gym in two. We asked Alves if he thought a blow to the head from his recent fight with Georges St-Pierre may have caused his condition and he told us, "I don't think so."
TMZ also spoke with UFC president Dana White who told us, "He'll be back ... it's all good."
Alves along with his management are holding a quickie press conference in Manhattan this evening at Sazon, a restaurant in Tribeca. The Brazilian was very optomistic when he spoke with the media yesterday at the fighter hotel. TMZ also spoke with UFC president Dana White who told us, "He'll be back ... it's all good."
Update from Tracy Lee, MMA blogger/photographer:
Alves announced that he is having an Angiogram, a non-invasive exploratory procedure on Wedneaday. The procedure will be performed at Hyman-Newman Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery located at Roosevelt Hospital.
Alves has malformation of the left side of his brain. After a few days of anguish, they found that whatever it is, it should not be career ending- not an aneurysm. He should be back to training full speed in three weeks.
