I quit my tkd school because my instructer is impossible to deal with. But can i still enter tournaments, im still training in tkd just at home, can i still enter AAU tournaments? i dont have to belong to a school do i?

Thanks all.

Laborn.

No Lebron you do not have to belong to any school to do tournaments, also sorry to hear you never got your BB. Was he getting you Kukkiwon or just a house BB. Keep working by yourself and enter all the tournaments you like and if you are at the one's we go to I'll be happy to coach you if you would like me to.

Pretty big generalization. How about some more in depth details. Where's the disconnect?

(btw terry i quit tkd my instructer had problems and he's not running things right so i told him im quiting, the sadest part is that i never got my black belt certificit, he never gave it to me, so i lost my black belt rank...oh well sadest part of ALL is theres no tkd school within 100 miles of me..and the prices of gas today im stuck)

I cut this from a previous post which explains your position a little. Sounds like what I have been dealing with to an extent. I even quit once two years ago for two months. I missed Taekwondo immensely even though I worked out by myself. It had more to do with my friends and they were responsible for me coming back to the school. I didn't have my cert either but finally got it after a year of persistence with the master instructor. You can never lose your black belt rank, once you have achieved that, you are a black belt! But you can find another instructor to test you again for BB for KKW certification, asap btw. I don't have an option either to go to another school within an hour or so driving. So, slowly I have really taken a position on what I think I should be entitled: to be a teacher, and to get my 2nd dan certificate and I have managed that. Other than that, I have to work within the system, the instructor's system, to effect change. To get my own classes, I had to advertise myself. It is so difficult to order equipment from my instructor through his school that I had to order gloves myself for my women students. To get the dojang cleaned, I cleaned it. I finally got black belt classes, a class, but it is at very late time of the day and end of the week. I am hoping to institute a mailbox communication center for black belts as I can't seem to get a black belt monthly meeting together. Dictatorship and all that! But some dictators don't know how to run everything and in fact never learned how. I honestly think my instructor/owner of the school is trying to do the best he can with his time, trying to support his family but he lets ego get in the way. He likes to mess up what ever change I do, ie mess his office, supplies, storeroom right after I cleaned it (stopped doing that!) My way is the best way attitude is not good, not open to change.

I believe in change to the better. But sometimes, we have to be strong and be the change we want to happen. If your instructor is incapable of getting your KKW cert. and you want it, find a way to get it through testing for another master! TW

Laborn, sorry to learn of the problems between you and your instructor. I think Tigerwoman's message is a great example though: she found a way to continue training and fulfill her desire to be a teacher. It obviously was not easy. I wish you the best of luck either in finding a new instructor or continuing to train on your own....

Verbal/emotional abuser, he messed with my head alot and drained my confidence, so i finally had enough of it, no amount of training in the world is worth that...is that good enough? lol.

I would find another instructor, you just will not advance in skill by yourself. Good luck to you.
