was the grappling hook traditional?

was it? cause i dont hear much people talking about it as a normal ninja tool. So far i've only seen/heard of it in movies

Yes, it's traditional. One of the tools of the "shinobi rikugu" is a grappling hook. There are more climbing devices devised by the ninja than you can shake a stick at, and there were a number of grappling hook variations.
