We have finally decided on the date for the WMA camping/training weekend
in western PA. It will be held on June 18,19. We do not have the exact
location as of yet and are narrowing down the possible sites. We have
several instructors lined up but it would be nice to get a few more...so
if you are interested in helping, let me know. This event is on a strict
$0 budget so keep that in mind. So if youa re an instructor of a western
martial art and find yourself in a position to help out, it would be
appreciated.
The event will be very cheap to attend...we are only trying to cover the
costs of the camping area and any pavillion rental that we might need.
Estimated $15 to $20 to attend.....this should cover any camping fees so
basically this event is planned for those either on a budget or just
starting out and wanting to get a look at some of the western material.
If you are interested in getting updates concerning this event, write me
offlist @ [email protected]
Website for the event is in the works.
thanks
Ken

Hello,
The International Swordfighting and Martial Arts Convention continues to
grow as we go into our 6th year of bringing together the finest instructors
from around the world. After making some exciting new additions, the web
site is up and can be found at
http://artofcombat.org/public/thespis/Conv...on/aocflyer.htm This year
will have all the wonderful opportunities that we have every year as well as
some new experiences for 2005, making it the workshop not to be missed. It
will be held in Lansing, Michigan as always on the first weekend of August
(5th-7th) 2005.
We will be offering over 40 classes during the three days. As you saw last
year, there will be 4 classes to choose from all weekend! There are two
blocks of regular classes running concurrently with a block of 3 hour master
classes and a block of 4 ? hour Maestro classes. Check the website to see
how last year?s schedule was laid out. This will give you an idea of the
great variety of classes that will be offered.
PRIVATE LESSONS with the instructors will be offered again. These were
offered at ISMAC 2003 for the first time at any WMA workshop and they were a
huge success, so we are excited to continue offering this rare opportunity.
Just check out the website for more information!
Not only is there an amazing list of classes and instructors, but you will
have the chance to use your skills! We will have a rapier tournament on
Saturday night and a Singlestick Tournament on Sunday.
On Friday night you will have to choose between coached bout rapier fencing,
Longsword free fencing, or exercising your mind at the paper presentations.
There will be demonstrations and presentations during the lunch breaks
everyday. We will also have several discussion groups happening over the
weekend which will be very exciting. More will be on the website in the
months to come!
Come share in the fun of the infamous statues, try one of Lansing?s famous
pig sandwiches while learning tons about Western Martial Arts!
Sincerely,
Jared Kirby

Friends and Colleagues,
It wish great pleasure that the Chicago Swordplay Guild announces
that the 6th Annual Western Martial Arts Workshop will be held on
September 9 11, 2005 at the scenic DeKoven Center, in Racine,
Wisconsin. Reserve it on your calendars!
Located an hour north of Chicago, the DeKoven Center is a
picturesque, 19th century college-turned-retreat center located on
the shores of Lake Michigan. You can get a feel for the location by
viewing their webpage:
http://dekovencenter.pair.com/history.htm
In a few weeks we will be launching a dedicated event website, but
in the meanwhile, look for short-term updates at:
http://chicagoswordplayguild.com/wmaw/index.htm
Instructor invitations and schedule coordination is already
underway. In the interim, here are a few teasers of what we're
working on:
1. Core fundamentals classes to help develop proper footwork, body
mechanics, power generation, etc., in a variety of disciplines.
2. Classes organized by both time period, and skill level, so
students can either get an introductory sampling of a variety of
classes, or study certain topics progressively throughout the
weekend.
3. A track of classes aimed specifically at developing instructors
and instructional skills.
4. A variety of new faces (well, new to teaching at WMAW!) from
North America and abroad joining the "usual suspects".
5. Lectures, demonstrations and roundtables.
6. A Saturday night celebratory feast, with some very special
entertainment, including the debut of the WMAW
7. Monitored and critiqued free-play.
8. A very special "Alliance Martial Arts Full-immersion Experience",
brought to the brave by the deliciously wicked mind of WMAW co-
founder, Pete Kautz.
Hopefully, this is enough to wet your appetites for now. Look for
more news in the weeks to come.
Best wishes,
Greg Mele
