Tyson vs Paul

For those who are interested.

My personal experience with sparring and facial hair is that the gloves slips off my beard. I don't have a thick beard, but I would assume there is some cushion for those with thick beards.

I used to have a close cropped beard. I used to rub a little Vaseline into it at the boxing gym. Once I started to sweat it was like a slip and slide.

Mike did not try to KO Paul nor care to throw many punches while he was down on the score cards.
If a knee injury is bad enough then it will affect mobility. If it's bad enough then you'll move like Tyson did. The jumping around that Tyson appeared to be the type of jumping that one would do when testing out a bad knee. It's like preflight check but for the knee.

This is still a money grab. As the promoters of the fight. Ask Netflix. Ask the owner of the statdium. They don't do stuff for free either and they definitely not going to do anything for chump change.
Only charging money is not a money grab, charging unethically under false pretenses is.

There was no luck in it. PPV can't do what Netflix does.
Luckily, Netflix subscribers were able to watch the Paul vs Tyson fight at no extra charge.

I'm with you on this one. He has boxing skills, but he's not officially ranked by an of the boxing associations. If he wants to be seen as a boxer, then that's the path that he will have to take.

This entire discussion about Jake Paul's boxing skills reminds me of Kimbo Slice who was killer backyard fighter and people said the same thing about his fighting skills. But it wasn't until he got into the MMA ring that we understood just how lacking his skills were. Even Kimbo Slice was humbled by that. I think this is the same with Jake Paul.

He said he set out on a mission to be a boxer. Technically he hasn't taken the required step to even be considered a boxer. Right now, he's just someone who can box. When he gets officially ranked or when he tries to climb that ladder then. He can consider himself a boxer.
See this is what I have issue with. He's done exactly what's required to become a ranked boxer, and he's quite good at it nowvs even last year.

He's supposed to be ranked, the WBC has been stalling with this for over a year since Tommy Fury, mostly because of the Tyson exhibition.

He's definitely going to be ranked now, it was already in the works pre-Tyson, and he's unofficially depending on where you look ranked in the low 100s globally

Mauricio Sulaiman said it himself.

An exhibition fight that is fairly disclosed to the public is not a money grab. Hyping a fight as if both parties are going to try to KO each other however they don't even try or have an agreement not to is an unethical money grab.

Many watched the fight to see if Tyson would KO Paul. Luckily, it was shown via Netflix not PPV. Mike did not try to KO Paul nor care to throw many punches while he was down on the score cards. Tyson vs Jones Jr. was a fairly disclosed fight. Paul vs Tyson seemed to be fixed.

Just for the record those types of reaction videos are part of the problem. That's content created for no other reason than to monetize on some event. People are literally paying those people money by reposting and sharing them.

End of day, it's a legally sanctioned exhibition match. A fix doesn't make sense there, what does make sense is the oddsmakers correctly called Paul the overwhelming favorite, and many people made or lost money.

And since it wasn't PPV and most people do have a Netflix account nowadays, the whole theory of a fix just makes no sense. It was Tysons chance to get back in the ring, and Paul's chance to prove his haters wrong.

And I'm one of his haters so for me to defend his boxing says alot.

Monetizing videos is not a problem if the content is fair.

It wasn't an exhibition. It was supposed to be a real fight. Selling a fight as real when it's fixed makes more money and sense for the participants..

And since it wasn't PPV and most people do have a Netflix account nowadays, the whole theory of a fix just makes no sense.
The more new Netflix subscribers the more money Netflix makes. With more subscribers, raising subscription prices makes more sense.

It was Tysons chance to get back in the ring, and Paul's chance to prove his haters wrong.

And I'm one of his haters so for me to defend his boxing says alot.
From the Compubox numbers and the fight itself, the fight appears to be staged. A fixed fight does not prove Paul's haters wrong.

Business is a money grab. I don't know why you think it's not. There will always be something unethical, something that can be classified as false pretense, or something unfair when it comes to business. Hence the reason Business Laws exists.

I still haven't had a quater pounder from McDonalds that looks like this.

You want something unfair? Lets talk about Gasoline or Prescriptions, or Walmart. Lets talk about gambling business or Insurance. Lets talk about holiday sales. Do you trade stock or Crypto. Just saying.

Like I tell people all the time "Slavery was and is a business / economic decision? My major is in business and I don't have a noble perception about business. I have a noble perception about some of the people who run a business. But that's the person not the business. Business laws were made for a reason. Why? Because it's nature is the money grab.

This is also why I cringe when people want business to run the country. To me that's insane knowing how buinsess opperates. Just saying. The most unpleasant money grab for a business to do is the layoffs for the main purpose of showing a profit or a stronger profit. It happens.

It was and it wasn't an exhibition. Legally it wasn't it was a licensed bout.

But let's face it, it was produced as an exhibition informally. And in fact there were a couple of deviations from a standard sanctioned bout.
From the Compubox numbers and the fight itself, the fight appears to be staged. A fixed fight does not prove Paul's haters wrong.
Maybe staged/fixed is the wrong term yo be using because it was by all accounts unscripted. This is pro boxing, not pro wrestling.

I'll grant you again Paul stayed safe and Tyson was slow, but that doesn't equate to a fake fight, and those YouTube videos weren't very convincing

It was fun to watch, the punches were real. Those punches would level most people

And, per regs, Paul is now suspended. I'm cautious about claiming the WBC is corrupt and pro bouts are fixed. That happens at lower levels but this was a WBC card, fixing fights would bring into question their legitimacy and open them up to major legal action from ticket holders, Netflix, etc.

There's no extra charger but the cost of my subscription has gone up. The only reason I don't cut it off is because they have been doing good with giving the content that I like. My watch list has been backed up since 2020. I just don't have enough time in day to watch everythng I like.

See this is what I have issue with. He's done exactly what's required to become a ranked boxer
No he hasn't. What Boxing organization does he fight under? That's like me telling saying that person who trains Karate on his own and does really good with fighting with it, should have a black belt. Then you would say that he's done everything that is required to be ranked as a black belt. He did everything except what was needed to be ranked as a black belt.

Don't like that example: Lets say he was a doctor and he did really well with treating people. We should just make him a MD and allow him to practice medicine in the U.S. because he did everything that real doctors do except take the medical exams that are required to be a doctor.

Right now Jake Paul is just a fighter who boxes.
He's supposed to be ranked, the WBC has been stalling with this for over a year since Tommy Fury, mostly because of the Tyson exhibition.
If he's not part of the WBC then he's not rankedd under them. That's just business . "Ready to entered into the WBC" is boyfriend/girlfriend talk about getting married, when the boyfriend says he's ready and it's already been 5 years of dating going on number 6. She can keep waiting if she wants but it ain't real until he's walking down the isle.

Lol now that's rigged. You can tell by their reaction that it's rigged. The youtube generation has some issues. One lady is standing in her chair even before he throws the phone. Her phone is out already recording what would unfold. No one seems to be concerned about his reaction, no one tries to calm him down. I guess the economy is doing well for them. Just saying. I'm not busting my TV up for youtube or a quick buck lol

Little Vaseline was my prison nickname.
I don't know how I missed this one. I was scrolling up to another Sammy comment lol.

And, per regs, Paul is now suspended.
Yep. They have to do a 24-day suspenion . It's a mandatory rest period to see if everything is working as it should.

. That happens at lower levels but this was a WBC card, fixing fights would bring into question their legitimacy and open them up to major legal action from ticket holders, Netflix, etc.
Exactly. That would be more trouble than the money made. It would also make Jake Paul less legitimate. He doesn't have a boxing rank but he he does have a Boxing Reputation. Tyson has an even bigger reputation to protect, In addition to that, there are a lot of "hands in the money pot" on this one. If it was staged then does that mean netflix was in on it? I'm going to make an assumption that netflix wouldn't take a risk like that. They have big eyes for Live-Streaming. I can't see them messing it up for sake of rigging a fight. Then you have the Betting Business in the mix as well.

Thanking all of tht into consideration, It would be stupid to rigg a the fight.

No he hasn't. What Boxing organization does he fight under?
Yes, he has.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) sanctioned his fight, on a WBC card. And Marvin just corrected me (accurately) it was not technically an exhibition (even though it was billed that way), that was the most legitimate fight of Paul's (novel, but advancing) career.

Granted it's an unorthodox way to drive into pro boxing circuits, but that's not unusual. I know guys who came from nothing and trained around garbage, and just started throwing down and now they are prize fighters in early retirement.

The "Cinderella Man" is a thing, it doesn't apply to Jake "Disney Problem Child" Paul but it inspires and that's important.
Right now Jake Paul is just a fighter who boxe
Right now he's suspended by the TDLR, along with Tyson, because that's standard for a professional boxer after a sanctioned, legally licensed match, as you pointed out. But even there, so many people are claiming he's suspended for some infraction. The spectators strike again.

Jake Paul is very likely on his way to becoming a pro heavyweight champion. He's on a winning streak against better and better fighters, and Tyson made him even more famous. And I really hope it helps him grow up a bit, but you know. Maybe he saw Creed I, II, and III and is living it now. He's a contender, to quote Marlon Brando.

When the WBC President made those comments, Paul was a cruiserweight. So he put on another 30 lbs of muscle and fought Mike Tyson. Wow.

I went to my local Gym today, inspired. And I think the people overanalyzing this fight really need to go train more and talk less. Not you, I understand where you are coming from, you clearly have some experience.

guess I'll my main thought out loud, people need to stop dissing both Paul and Tyson. Both men are good fighters who tested their mettle in front of millions, maybe even billions.

It's not fair, it's insulting to both fighters, who put on a great matchup for the crowd, and all this negative talk is so typical, present company excluded.

My least favorite commentor Kate Abdo, was there and she just representes the ignorance of the non-boxing gallery. She made a few ridiculous comments about Tyson's performance, and has zero boxing experience, training and even admitted she never watched it before. But she's good looking so they gave her a microphone.

She represnts this new generation...all talk, no skin.

Sorry for ranting.

They had no other choice but to do it that way. They had to go through the WBC in order for it to be a sanctioned fight. An unsanctioned fight is a big No.

WBC saw the money in it and they also need new life brought back into boxing and Jake Paul + Netflix +the Promoters have showed WBC how to go about it. The only thing that they need to do now is test the formula again to see if it will work for other fighters. Netflix and the promoters will need something that is repeatable. The promoters went all out. Personally, I think that's the shine that all boxing matches should have. Not the car stuff, but the lights, the colors, the graphics on the TV . It gave Boxing a new look. They'll need that + social media personalities and + celebs to help draw people in.

I know boxers like to box, but I'm sure they'll get a few lessons on becoming influencers themselves. It would give fans access to the boxers in a way that fans didn't have before youtube live streams. I'm sure that will be the next big step for Netflix. Celeb access via live stream

I think Jake Paul is going to fight Rocky Balboa next.
