Today's WTF moment

......did I miss anything? Oh yeah-in more than 38 years of "treating animals that way," I've only killed one person-can't say "he deserved it," but "deserve" had nothing to do with it, anyway. Pretty sure I'm not a monster.
I'm think I'm in agreement with most of your ideas here. But the above part seems to cry out for more explanation. That's a teaser if I ever read one.

We humans generally differentiate "good" from "evil" in many cases based on intent.

It's okay to kill another human if they are trying to kill you.
It's not okay to kill another human because you get off on raping corpses.

It's okay to kill an animal if you plan to eat it, or use it in another productive manner fitting for survival.
It's not okay to kill an animal jusrt to get your jollies.

I'm not sure about other states, but animal cruelty in GA is a felony and I'm glad it is.

Not a teaser;I've posted about it before: I was mugged in the NY subway back in '81.

They didn't exactly succeed.

One could say that killing an animal (puppy) for its pelt is no different than killing a mink, or a raccoon, or a coyote. In fact, one can buy a dog-fur coat from China.

If that's what they did, what's the "cruel" part? (understand, I'm in no way condoning what they did, how they did it,or why they did it-I'm just pointing out how this whole thing is about perception, and "cruelty" really doesn't enter into it,....)

I can empathize: Tucson, AZ '03. An 'Illegal' with a knife. Sucks to be him. LOL ...but I don't talk about it much.

Again..."intent" is normally the determining factor. "Why" they did it. I really don't think that having a dog-skin-belt was all that important to them.

Strange. I sure don't have a pet 7 week old deer to kill to make a belt out of. I sure don't have a pet baby squirrel to kill and make a belt out of. And I sure don't get my pets to kill and skin to make a belt out of.

That's the difference between hunting and killing your pets. Deer and squirrels are not pets. It was a 7 week old puppy that was killed, not wild animals you hunt.

If you can’t see the difference between the two then any critter you have can be abused in any way you want. And that is sick.

Well, I dunno. Some people call Vietnamese potbellied pigs "pets," and damn me for butchering them for my table. I don't call them "pets." In fact, when someone asked me the last litters names, I said, "That one's "Christmas," and that ones "Thanksgiving," and that one's "Easter," and we call that one "want pork chops."

When I slit the throat of the young piglet for roast suckling pig, it ended up being quite tender and tasty: I roasted it slowly at a low temperature, seasoned with savory herbs and fruits.

When I whacked the puppy over the head, gutted, skinned and stewed it-with scallions, sage, and jerusalem artichokes, it was no less savory, tender or tasty. Anyone who'd seen it running around the yard a bit in the previous weeks would have assumed it was a "pet."

They'd have been wrong. That puppy's name was nothing more than "July meeting," and it tasted good.

A buddy of mine loves boar hunting. One night, they brought home a pregnant sow, put her in her own pen. They named the Piglets: Easter, Christmas, Dad's Birthday, and happily, Don's coming for Dinner...

I'm wondering how skinny this woman must be. A 7 week old Jack Russell is pretty tiny--not much skin to make the belt out of, especially if you've shot it multiple times.

Meth freak skinny, probably....

And, if it was actually done right, she could probably have gotten 3 feet of pelt a little over an inch wide out of the puppy-we also have to remember that we can't really be sure how old it was: the 7 weeks is an estimate. I wouldn't think a 7 week old Jack Russell could be shot multiple times, even with a .22, and leave much of anything, but she reportedly nailed the hide to a board....

ANd I just want to add, each person was charged with one count of felony cruelty to animals. If her friend shot the dog, and she skinned the dog, how is skinning the dog cruelty, when it was already dead?

I don't know; perhaps the killing just alerted the authorities to earlier cruel treatment? The shooting could be cruelty if the first shot didn't kill the puppy.

Probably because she participated in the entire event.

Just like if you killed a guy and then drug him to my house so I could help you bury him. That would make me an accessary. I didn't kill him and he was already dead by the time I took part in the event, but I was aware of the crime and involved.
