The Karate Kid, 30 years later...

Those of us who were kids in the 70's and 80's remember with great fondness, the original Karate Kid, Ralph Macchio.

I'll say this much, that he should be thankful that he's aged a lot more gracefully than most other folks in Hollywood his age.

It was kinda long, rambling, and left me wondering if he was ever gonna get to the point, or if, when he did, it would be different than the point he stated half a dozen times or so: "I'm an actor, not the character, and I sometimes get tired of being mistaken for him."

Some actors embrace their popular character history, some spend their life running from it.

I still want a slice of Mary Ann's coconut cream pie.

the movie was good, and perhaps like William Shatner he has embraced the character. either way it was a good movie.

I watched this with my dad when I was little and it really spoke to me.

It is partially responsible for who I am today. Interesting to consider how little things like an old movie can have such an impact.

It is always cool to see what inspired MAists to take up The Way. For some it's Bruce Lee/Enter the Dragon, or it's Gordon Liu's 36th Chamber of Shaolin (aka Master Killer), or David Carradine/Kung Fu and for some others it's Pat Morita/Ralph Macchio's The Karate Kid.

Still enjoy watching the films, but I also have to say I do like the remake too.
