Inspired by a New Yorker story, "Jumpers," written by Tad Friend, director Eric Steel decided to train cameras on the Golden Gate Bridge over the course of 2004 to capture the people who attempted to leap off the famed structure, the site of more suicides than anywhere else in the world.
Though the camera crew worked with a set of guidelines, including that they would call in someone they thought was going to jump, the documentary still includes lengthy footage of the moments leading up to and including the suicides
The thought of footage of actual suicides leaves me uneasy. Do you think any good can come from this movie to highten awareness for mental health issues and suicide prevention? Or is it just a new level of shock factor for our increasingly desentitized culture?

Thoughts?

What I hope it doesn't lead to is someone thinking "Boy,what a way to go".."Is that cool or what"...

Ditto!! I suppose it all comes down to how the movie is presented. If the focus is more of seeking an answer as to why people do this, then yeah, I'd say it may help, as Jade suggested.

I agree, unfortunately the thought that jumped into my mind are all the sick people going to watch someone "off" themselves. That just turns my stomach.

Came across a guy sitting on the edge of a bridge here in downtown..I was scared that my action would push him over the edge...Thankfully when he started easing his way back toward the sidewalk I was able to pull him off and secure him...

Yeah, I feel the same way, and certainly hope it doesn't *glamourize* suicide.

Nope! I don't think that is a matter to watch on video. These people are just trying to make a buck on the shock value and people are careless enough to want to be entertained but that stuff. Watching someone die is not a good thing to see, whether it is on the battlefield, a park, a hospital, or home.
