The Samurai used to wear this kinda-vest like sleevless gi type top OVER their clothing. You see it all the time in martial arts films with big pointy shoulders... and if you have ever seen Sanjuro or Yojimbo, Toshiro Mifune was always walking around with his arms tucked into it...

Does anyone know, What is this outer garment called, and where can I order one from?

I know that RyuShiKan, were he not suspended currently, could answer this one straight away... In his absence, I will try to help out.

After a very short search on Google, I found this website.

The short jacket you are probably referring to is called haori. There are a lot of different components to kimono, and they all have different names (absolutely no different than our clothing having different names, e.g. vest, cummerbund, garter belt, etc.)

As for where you can buy such things? Try the links page on that website for a start.

Enjoy.
