WEST HARTFORD, Conn. --
Five teenagers were in jail Tuesday night after a shooting in West Hartford, police said.

Police said the gun used in the shooting was recovered and the victim was in critical condition at a local hospital.

A neighbor who didn't want to go on camera described the scene. Police searched street after street for several suspects after the shooting on Abbotsford Avenue.

"A whole bunch of SWAT guys came out of (a) truck with shields," said Luis Diaz.

Police said the shooting was over the bullying of a girl. They said the five teens showed up at her home at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday, possibly to bully her.

The girl's relative came out to try and make peace when he was shot, police said.

Another sad story of the ongoing issue of bullying. Now you have this guy, fighting for his life, because some 17yo piece of trash felt the need to bully someone. If we're lucky, every single one of these kids will spend many long years in a cell.

IMO, showing up at someone's door with weapons goes a hell of a lot further than 'bullying'.

WTH??? "possibly to bully her?" Ah, no.

ya I was just going to say 5 guys showing up at someones house with guns is not bullying...
thats verging on attempted homicide, premeditated attempted murder, assault, conspiracy, and I am sure a whole bunch of other charges..

the term bullying is getting overused...
this is not bullying... this is way worse.

bullying is something that most often does not cross into criminal behavior, and when it does usually is minor criminal behavior.. a shove, a punch or two, maybe even the same daily over a period of time, but even then its usually with any intent to hurt rather an intent to embarass, harass, intimidate, etc.

This is why I tell every kid who has an issue with kids at school to keep the powers-that-be informed and up-to-date as situations like this arise and escalate. There will be a record, a name they hear over and over that triggers some kind of alert and they *should* respond accordingly.

When the police need be called, there is the background to back it up and calls like this can be taken more seriously.
