IRL = “In real life”Anyone know what 'irl' means?
IRL = “In real life”
Yea like the one story written by Leung Ting where it said Yip Man fought a boxer Kam Shan Mao and beat him either with one punch or within a minute sounds BS, no doubt Yip Man did have a certain amount of fights, the thing is we can’t verify which stores are true or a parts thereof.The simple answer is no one knows what is or is not true because there are no living witnesses.
Undoubtedly some stories are true, some slight exaggeration and some total BS
Many have used Yip Mans reputation to bolster their own and charge high lesson fee's Many have belittled Yip Man to boost their own stature and cash in by saying their wing chun is better older etc
When money is involved it is best to be skeptical.
Yip Man himself had different levels of students. The ones that paid for private lessons or were the early fighters that grew his school through fighting success learned the most Since Yip man spent more time with them they probably got better or more accurate stories.
The only school that Yip Man ever officially publicly endorsed was Jui Wan. Compare that to all the students that taught wing chun and you can get an idea of the variety of stories kicking around.
This depends on the rules that were set for the fight. The one thing I don't hear much of is if the fights were all out fights or if there were specific rules. A challenge of skills so to speak.Yea like the one story written by Leung Ting where it said Yip Man fought a boxer Kam Shan Mao and beat him either with one punch or within a minute sounds BS,
General Hong Kong rooftop rules, No eyes,no throat.no knee's no roasting chestnuts everything else was fair. first round one side attacks second round other side has to attack . Some folks got smacked pretty good. Yip Man changed or stop teaching some techniques after his students caused some real damage with them. Yip Bo Ching for example was the first to learn the dummy. After he really hurt someone with a technique Yip man changed it so it never showed up in any other students dummy forms.This depends on the rules that were set for the fight. A beat B in a real sword fight. This could sound really amazing until you understand that the rule was whoever draws first blood wins. Rule first Blood. While accidents can happen, we know that it wasn't a fight to the death. And that it looked like this.
Beat someone with one punch could be. The first one who lands a punch wins.
