I stumbled upon this as I browsed the Net earlier. I couldn't resist adding my tuppence to the comments .

I loved the previous Stargate series and have watched them multiple times - the characters are well drawn for their roles and, most importantly, I liked them so I was more than happy to watch them in season after season.

'Edgy' characters are fine for a film or a stand-alone novel but for a series the parameters are different. After all, if you find someone so lacking in moral fibre you wouldn't have them in your house if they were 'real people', you won't have them in your house on the TV either, certainly not week after week.

I loved SGA, but SGU is so very dark in its plots and in its filming. I still watch it as its kind of growing on me, but its no where near where the other SG’s were by this time into the series.

Its all old hat, we need original story lines and its all basically the same as every other SF show that’s been on the air in the past 40 years. So far a miss, but we'll see.

SG1 set a high standard, that neither of it's spin offs have reached. They need to lure the original writers back if they want this show to succeed. None of the characters are very likable, thus far.
