I loved the previous Stargate series and have watched them multiple times - the characters are well drawn for their roles and, most importantly, I liked them so I was more than happy to watch them in season after season.
'Edgy' characters are fine for a film or a stand-alone novel but for a series the parameters are different. After all, if you find someone so lacking in moral fibre you wouldn't have them in your house if they were 'real people', you won't have them in your house on the TV either, certainly not week after week.
