Whether you are catholic or not, you cannot deny the good this man brought to this world. He was a man who fought for peace and life, without violence. He stood up for those who were persecuted, and IMO he is a major cause for the defeat of radical communism and whatever tyranny it produced. He brought all people together regardless of personal beliefs and religion.

May he rest in peace.

:asian: He was indeed a rare and honorable man. I for one shall miss him. :asian:

Amen to that. Although I didn't agree with a handful of his views, I had unlimited respect for the man. His successor has some huge shoes to fill........Steve

A man tried to assasinate the pope. The pope visited the man in jail and forgave him.

its very sad

he did alot of good works, tho i do not agree with his religion i must still respect him and the good work he did do

*nod* J.P. II was pretty amazing. I was talking with my mother earlier today and she relayed some things she heard. One was that he's being called "the Great" now, not officially because they don't do that, but as a sort of popular consensus. Only like two other popes have been called "the Great" before, so that's pretty impressive. Another point was that he blessed more people than all other popes *combined*. I was shocked at that. But it just shows how much he was out and about among the people in his 26(?) years as pope. Apparently no one else was out there as much as he was. And as noted, you don't have to accept or believe in the religion he headed to recognize the good work he did or at least tried to do.

He did good work & tried to do what he thought was in the best interest for the populus as a whole, not just the RC followers only.
