One more.....

What is the main way a grappler takes a fight to the ground? Is it a rush at the knees? Or maybe a grab of the shoulders and a take down? What is the most effective, or most often used technique?

From what I understand, the Gracie style teaches a "unicorn" close with the elbow shielding the head, from there they snatch the legs and dump you. I've also seen "shoots" wherein they sort of just dive in and get a double-leg.
Not being a grappler in the strictest sense of the term, I can't tell for sure. But I'm going to start grappling with my instructor who studied with Carlson Gracie, in a few years I should have more insight. I think I'll remain predominately a striker (see previous posts by me).
