Behind every flag in the history of the world there is a sordid tale if you care to look. That is poor grounds for labeling the flag itself as an evil symbol--so banning it. There wouldn't be any left to fly.

This isn't long buried history that only obscure historians know about. The Stars and Bars was part of a concerted campaign of white supremacy that occurred within living memory. I don't think it should be banned, but flying it in earnest and not in service to another goal (i.e. reenactments or historical displays) should be heavily criticized by all decent people.
