I agree too.

The would-be-artists of the present just do not have the background to hold a candle to their forebears I m afraid. It's not that they can't, it's in large part that they won't. They want everything easy and quick and music does not come that way, not good music with emotion and power that comes from composition and commitment from the soul rather than over-production and ad slots.

Loved, loved, LOVED this part:
As Amber started to sing Rodgers & Hart’s “My Funny Valentine,” Connick stopped her. He asked her what the song is about. "What does it mean, 'Your looks are laughable?'" he asked her, or "'Is your figure less than Greek?'" Amber looked blank — she had no idea. She struggled for words. He told her to go do some research on the lyricist, Lorenz Hart, a physically diminutive, closeted homosexual who died of alcoholism at age 48. Before singing the song, Connick sternly told Amber, you need to understand what Hart was writing about.
Wish sometimes that Harry would just have a nice warm cup of STFU and play his piano (not that I don't enjoy his singing, it's just that he won the New Orleans Jazz Piano competition at age 14. He's a decent crooner, but a really, really, really good pianist....) but he shows here that he knows exactly what these songs require.....shame no one listened to him (not that I watch television or that program, but...)
