Music in martial arts

I don't know who first did MA to music. The first I saw it was in a just opened Jhoon Goo Rhee school in northern Virginia. He had two brothers perform. I don't recall now just how he characterized it; dance with martial arts moves, or kata to music. I just remember being surprised and not favorably impressed. But that is just my impression. Other may have their own beliefs about it.

My recollection was it was in late 1987 or early 1988. I think 1987.

Anything that has some backbeat and isn't too fast or aggressive. A lot of Motown is good. Some hip-hop works well.

A bit of Chicago house does it for me, but more old school deeper stuff. Old dirty beats always seemed quite apt to me.

My dojo plays the radio on Saturday sessions but honestly my mind just tunes it out. When I train by myself I have every 80's montage karate kid/ Rocky Balboa songs through my headphones though.
