Mixed Martial Arts is a very popular sport in Hawaii. Not only are we home to past and current UFC stars, we are also home to several fight promotions put on by local groups who train fighters and arrange fights. Relson Gracie, who was a seminal influence in popularizing the sport lives here and runs a dojo.


The most popular MMA show in town is the ever present Ultimate Fighting Championship. The small state of Hawaii has much to be proud of, with BJ Penn as the current UFC light weight champ. Hawaii has a strong fighting culture that is strengthened by its warrior culture heritage and the sheer amount and popularity of martial arts practice in the islands. The Warrior Culture is particularly evident in the Haka performed by the University of Hawaii's own Rainbow Warriors.
