Indiana is moving towards having a Meth Offenders Registry patterned off of its Sex Offenders Registry. Until this started getting press, I didn't realize that other states had these. I'm wondering what purpose it'll serve.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Jeff

Hey I'm for it...I'd like to see a list of those convicted for the sale and useage of crack cocaine...

had not heard about it and I have mixed feelings about it, Those people selling and making I have no problem seeing listed but those who use I am not sure about. I know much harm has been done by uses but so has harm been done by users of alcohol. Do we want to register all who have any addiction

I must disagree...Alcohol while a serious problem is still legal while "meth" is not...

I'm against it...everyone has mistakes in their past and should be given the opportunity to move on and all this registry will do is hurt those who are trying to recover and improve their life. And why meth users? Why not a registry for drunk drivers? They scare me more than meth users... What about a murderer registry?.....I just wonder where it stops. I am ambivalent on the sex offenders list, but accept that it can do some good by allowing people to protect themselves especially parents by being aware of who lives near them....but I don't see the purpose or benefit of a meth users list....

Sure, then we can create lists for Heroin addicts, and move on to Marijuana sellers and users then... oh boy... those who use alcohol and tobacco... can't wait! Sign me up!

You all have your beliefs and I have mine...

i can see both sides of this.
Meth users can become very psychotic and do so things that are both dangerous to themselves and others, with enough meth in the system over a long period of time their perspective on life, those around them, everything, changes but the same applies for other addictions as well. The trouble is many meth users become violent. the fumes ( if they smoke it) also travel though the air to innocent others

There should be registeries for everything. Touching little kids, meth, heroin, murders, etc. Would be expensive and tough to maintain, but a nice thought.

I totaly think we should register meth users and pushers. Actually, all drugs.

Probably a registry for all criminals. And potential ones too... Since Blacks and Hispanics are most likely, lets keep public lists of where they are. Oh, and gun owners... we all know gun owners are either going to kill someone, or leave their guns where children can get em...

Lets have lists of those too.

OH!

And the folk who speak out against the government. Cant forget to put them on a list. Hell... Liberals... they need to be listed.

Oh, but of course, then you can't forget the non-voters... they didnt support Bush, after all. Prolly all commies... or terrorists. should have em on a list.

Speaking of which... Terrorists... since most are arab, we need to put all arabs on lists. Oh, and the Irish... cuz they are probably all terrorists too.

And... hey what about that guy who didnt turn in his neighbor for having expired licence plates... he's a criminal sympathizer.

Martial Artists... they all know how to kill... gotta make a list of those deadly people availible to the world... and they should register their hands...

Ya know... the more I think about it, the more I like these lists... they keep us safe...

I sincerely hope you're being sarcastic. :ultracool

I thought it was called a 'rap sheet'?

Not sure we NEED to register them.

In my experience, meth heads are pretty easy to spot.

If they actually stop using (not likely) good on them!

If they are still using, it is usually pretty obvious.

I can see how they want to pick out meth heads among other drug users: they tend to be psychotic and can be very dangerous. Going days and even weeks without sleep does that to people, and then add the drug on top of that...

Bad stuff. (Missouri has been among the top states -- the top at times -- for small, clandestine meth labs.)

just look for the 120 lb. whip thin, bulging eyes, scabs all over their arms and face from picking at their skin, rotten toothed freaks with curtains over the windows and mirrors so they don't see how horribly effed up they have become.

As far as the sarcasm about making a list - don't be so cavalier if off unless you've seen first hand the destructive force of an explosion fueled by the chems used by meth freaks to make their drugs; they include: Over-the-counter cold and asthma medications containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine, red phosphorous, hydrochloric acid, drain cleaner, battery acid, lye, lantern fuel, and antifreeze are among the ingredients most commonly used. For more information.

for those interested here's an excellent site on the dangers of meth:http://www.kci.org/meth_info/faq_meth.htm

And just how is MAKING A LIST gonna stop that? Huh? Tell me that? Short answer... IT WONT. PERIOD. END OF DEBATE.

Once these guys are caught, then they have an ARREST RECORD. If THAT can't stop them from going back out and re-doing it, the system is ****ED... If they failed to be prosecuted, or were released, or pled out or whatever... the system ****ed up, and a list wont help. If they went to prison, did their time, but were not rehabilitated in the process, the system ****ed up, and a list wont help.

Im cavalier about it because I know its a waste of effort that does NOTHING except create another precident to take away MORE of our privacy and rights.

****... if you think a piece of paper will stop a crime, you should check on the effectiveness of Restraining Orders... or... ya know... laws.

Someone, please, enlighten me as to how creating a list of Meth offenders will stop them?

In fact... those of you who are willing to sacrifice freedom for saftey... so be it... but when, after you have beaten your swords to plowshares and sworn loyalty to the new lord of the land, he takes everything from you... dont cry out to those of us who kept our swords to save you... You are at least SAFE.

Yup, take the Canadian Gun Registry. Cost the tax payers billions. Made criminals out of law abiding citizens and did DICK SQUAT to control crime.

Lists don't work. Harder legislation that isn't pled out is what is needed. Social programs to give people options is what is needed. A rehab option that works is what is needed, not a list.
