To bring this back on topic....
Pre-Tess most of my favorite memories revolve around hunting and fishing with my dad.
When I was younger, my Dad ran a charter boat. I worked for him from the time I was 12 to the time I was 22. There was a day when we had no charter and Dad and I decided to go out on the bay to do some stuff on the boat we couldn't do at the marina. For example, flush the bilge and fix the head. Flushing the bilge was fairly easy, but fixing the head was a nightmare. It was about 100 degrees out with no breeze and I am down in the cabin, in the head, the size of a very small closet. The prio trip we had three couples and one of the ladies tried to dispose of one of her feminine hygiene products down the head, that doesn't work. I didn't find out what was causing the head to malfunction until I had pulled the whole thing down and was clearing the line. This was not fun, at all. Someone else had used the head and it wouldn't flush, that's how we found the problem. So here I am, trying not to gag, fixing the problem. Once I had the problem fixed, I was coming out of the cabin, cussing profusely, just in time to see my Dad pull in a 9lb sea trout. I looked and the whole time I was working, he had been fishing and already had 6 in the box. I cleaned up hurriedly, grabbed my rod and he and I started competeing. By the end of the day, we had landed about 30 trout all 7lbs to about 13lbs. What made this so much fun was the good natured competition between us. There were other trips that saw us throwing fish back and forth at each other from the stern of the boat to the bow.

Not so much a way back when, but the first time I saw what my little niece looked like and knew that there wouldn't be anything I wouldn't do for her.

Always a funny memory, at least for me, when I used to push my sister's black and blue marks and ask "does this hurt?". We both crack up at this whenever I bring it up now.

My wedding day which was two years ago this Sunday. Standing at the front of the Church with my groomsmen and Best Man and then my wife is walked down the aisle by her parents. (I'm sure just about every married guy will say the following) I've seen beautiful brides but none more enchanting than mine that day...

Favorite memories are graduation day from boot camp and the look on my dad's face when he saw me in my uniform for the first time, getting off of the USS Nassau after my first trip to parts unknown and having my oldest daughter fly across the dock area and jump into my arms. The birth of each of my children.

I'll post non-holiday memories later as this thread continues.

But my favorite Christmas memory was spending time with a co-worker on Christmas eve. I was going to spend the evening alone at my brother's apartment when lo she calls me up and invites me over as she was going to be alone as well... (No this isn't one of THOSE memories).
Since we lived only a couple of apartment complexes away from each other I hoofed on over there and spent several hours just enjoying the lovely lady's company. It was the first time I actually heard Christmas music sung by Motown singers/performers. Temptaions (singing Silent Night...whoo! Beautiful), Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Spinners, Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Smokey Robinson and on and on. Since then I've never been able to enjoy (WHITE-people) Christmas music like I used to.
I stayed for an hour after midnight and walked home in gently falling snow after a few hot-toddies and a wonderful Christmas eve dinner with a woman who deserved more than what she had. I'll remember her everytime I hear any Motown Christmas music.

Thanks Renee' and Merry Christmas where-ever you are.

For me.....and in no particular order....

~ Finding out I was pregnant.

~ Hearing my son's heartbeat for the first time in utero.

~ Seeing my son's face for the first time and holding him.

~ Hearing my son cry for the first time.

~ The laughter that followed when my Dad and brother missed the birth by 8 minutes cuz they were tired of waiting and went to dinner!! They came back to see their first nephew/grandson for the first time.

~ My wedding day

~ When my husband proposed to me at the base of the highest waterfall in Canada after a grueling 15 mile hike.

~ The three times that it snowed in my hometown......it's only snowed there 3 times in my lifetime....and we gathered all, yes, ALL of the snow from the back and front yard to make a snowman.

~ Too many good memories from my childhood to list....from family fishing and camping trips to quiet times at home in front of the fire for Christmas, ski trips, vacations, etc.....I love my family so much!!
